ogre Posted March 4, 2006 Report Share Posted March 4, 2006 I heard that some company makes a lock that has a warenty where if you bke gets nicked while it's locked up with one of their chains they replace your bike, how much and where?And on the mention of bike locks I would like some suggestions/pointers on my Elec. products project, I want to make an alarm that you can fit in your bars which is fitted to a bike lock (it's all theory stuff atm) and it goes off if the cable is cut, pulled on excesively or the bike moves a lot, for an alarm i will probably have a beeping thing but to have "get back you b*****d or I'll break your legs" would be prety awesome, maybe if i market them i will... And all their locks have some guarantee I think - but the New York lock guarantees it for up £2000's worth of bike. I have a kryptonite coil thing - it was about £15 and it's guaranteed for up to £500. I don't know that I would trust them to pay up though. Someone actually tried to cut through it - there are some marks from some bolt cutters or something on there. It didn't break though, only the plastic covering, which is good. I don't really trust it though, so I use a D-lock too (random thing - the cheapest on CRC), which I would trust more, it'd be much harder to cut through. And I just use the Krytonite one for my wheels. This is on my road bike, I would never leave my trials bike unattended anywhere... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Don't think I'd trust my bike with something i made in an E.P. class i'm just in it for the gcse lol, where can i get a kryptonite lock? And I know you said that you bike isn't as well spec'd as some on here, but your average thief is not going to know that - to the untrained eye it'll be the same as any trials bike, probably. MaXsteri Posted March 4, 2006 Report Share Posted March 4, 2006 (edited) I used to have the New York, it was good Although no one ever tried to steal my bike so i guess i wouldn't really know Now i use the Abus Granit Steel-O-Flex 1000, which is a cable lock rather than a d lock. And its just as good if not better. But it doesn't have the same guarantee as the Kryptonite if you are bothered about that, its also worth noting that the money back thing only applies for a year. But I still wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my bike anywhere as they will always find something to steal from it, or they will get pissed off that they cant steal it and cut the brake hoses or something sillyEdit: The reason I changed to the Abus if anyone is wondering is that my bike insurance wouldnt cover theft with the Kryptonite New York, which is stupid as they are both in the same class.
