I'm super retarded with computers. But i was given this laptop by my brother in law, its a year old and has Xp installed on it. It was pretty decent when he got it but it seems now to be filled up with shit. I was wondering if there was any simple way or simple program for formatting it?

I got given all the cds that came with it but theres nothing for formatting.

Would i be better taking it to a computer shop for them to have a go with?

Any help is really apreacated!

Thanks

Most branded laptops come with a restore or recovery cd which you just stick in and reset the laptop and follow the instructions. The cd will restore the laptops software state to what it was when it was bought.

I suggest you ask your brother-in-law if hes still got this if you havent got it already :)

Right i have the system restore Cd , and i've opted for the user instalation which can wipe it back to how it was.

But when i click next to actually get it go work a box pops up and says " An Error has occured in the script on this page"

"Do you want to continue to run scripts on this page?" If you click yes or no , the box disapears but the installtion won't move on , if you click the next the box reapear. :-(

Any ideas?

Try bunging the cd in the drive and resetting the laptop. It should boot from the cd rather than booting windows.

If it doesn't boot of the cd right away, you have to hit f1 or delete key when you turn on the laptop, to get into to the bios.

Set the 1st boot device as cd rom :)
