Build My 24 Inch !

Ok whenever the 24UK is available I most likely will be getting it, so I need to know what parts I should get and what parts I can sell from my pure. Here's the spec I had in mine, feel free to change anything as I'm still new to the whole 24 inch thing.

Forks: not sure on this one, will be using disk so any suggestions ? was thinking maybe the knifen lite.

Headset: a pig or something cheap and strong

Stem: 90mm 15 degree rise. Thompson

Bars: Azonic (already have)

Hubs: Hope XC

Rims: DX32 or Rhyno lite XL ?

Cranks: Tensile urban legends 18T (already have)

Brakes: Rear:HS33's....Front: I already have avid BB7 but i want to give hydro a go so was thinking juicy five ? or I can just keep the BB7.

Gearing: I think I will go singlespeed, right now i'm running 18:15 is that a good gear ? keep in mind that I'm pretty much stuck on 18T front.

Tyres: Maxxis or Tioga whichever is available

Seat: BBB (already have)

18:16 is way to easy, your better off going for a rear 13t or 14t.

Rims, there are only one type of 24 rim. The Ryhno light, they are strong, light and cheap on Chain Reaction at the mo they have 17% off the 32h rims.

Tyre choice is very important, if you go for some of the maxxis tyres the bike will feel very slow and heavy. It will loose all of the amusing handling of a 24. The tiogas however have rubbish grip, they are god awfull on anything but dry concrete. Apart from the race bmx tyres like the Tioga comp X, which is what I run. It is a street tyre basicly and dosen't really cut it on the natural stuff. Another possibility is the DMR moto digga, but they tend to have very thin, weak sidewalls so punctures may be a problem.

I run a maxxis swampthing on the back of mine and it is the only tyre choice really if you are planning on going anyway near anything remotely slippy and/or rocky - quite heavy but not that bad if run a standard tube!

Another option is the IRC kujo, they are okay

My next rear tire though is gonna be the arrow racing lauch tire - lighter than for maxxis , sticky compound and thick sidewalls , but more of a streety tread pattern!

I got a dmr motodigger on the front and great front tyre - really light weight and pretty grippy. i wouldn't put it on the rear though you would have to run thick ass downhill tube though because the sidewalls are thin or a high pressure, which some people do, but i can't get used to the 40psi

if you want a more flicky bike get the front end up high and wideish bars are good!

i'm going to get some Bt forks F6 i think they're called, purly for the colour (blue) as a little birdy told me it's the same colour :wink2: as for rims and tyres, i've bought some DMR DV rims and moto digger tyres ('cos i got them cheap ) stem is a DMR conrod 90mm 15deg, bars are raceface diabolous (i think they might be a bit low..1.5inch rise ) same headset and tensile cranks ooooh and for the seatpost/seat combo, SDG I-beam post with an I-fly C seat, my mate has tis set up on his Dh rig, 300grams for the both (seatpost cut down to 1/2 length)

Odyessy Hazard Lite - I am running the standard one on the front and its awesome, wish I got a another one when i bought it. Great Rims but difficult to get hold of!!

I reckon the Tioga Blue Dragons might be worth a look for a rear tyre on street only. I'm running one on the front at the moment and it seems nice enough. Grip is OK and they're fairly light I think (I couldn't find a weight), although I am not convinced they would take too much abuse unless you're running high pressures. I like my Maxxis (Swampthing) for the rear

Brake-wise I'd keep the BB7. My Juicy 7 is no more powerful than a BB7 and I imagine the Juicy 5 is less powerful than that. Although I've never used one.

Im sure like me you wont be running 20 psi in them, so you should be fine. Ive had one puncture in about 3 months and that was a stupid little kicker off a sharp curb.

I had a blue dragon on the back before getting a comp X. And I hated it, sure it was light but it didnt grip at all in the wet and very little in the dry. It wore down at an alarming rate aswell.

I think I'll keep the bb7 and maybe spend the money on a hope pro 2 instead. Ok so gearing 18:14 and forks....i quite like the look of the F6 and its at a good weight too, what are you guys all running ? (I'm from Aus so I can't get modified pashley's ).

Rims: I've checked out the odyssey and it is indeed quite rare I can only seem to find them in 20" and 36 hole. Also would a DX32 be overkill or something because my 26" one is awsome ? also i was thinking a 24" singletrack for a front rim ?
