Being 17 insurance is an issue Reccomendations? If jardo comes in here and tells me to get a saab I shall not be happy. Oh and budget wise, £1500? cheaper the better though. RobinJI
How long is a piece of string? And make sure it's started from cold and listen for any nasty knocks, and be checking round the sills, arches, boot floor, and petrol cap for rust 'rocco's looking good Robin, still needs a considerable drop though I'd drop it more, but I live in the country (hence the mud all over the car, I cleaned it a few days ago!) and I wouldn't be able to drive it anywhere. haha. Theres only 10 threads left to go on the rears anyway! And to put the spolier back on!Although it doesn't look so bad without it.Its in the pipeline, I bought a small boot spoiler off a mk3 capri earlier today which I spent a while altering to fit, but I still need to do the finishing touch's and make up some fittings, should look a lot more subtle than the standard dinner table, but it'll hopefully break up the lines a bit and make it look less odd. The Stig
Right so my car over heats last night after some guy taps my bumper nice enough to sort me out some cash there and then, i notice my car is overheating. (the tap could not of caused this). I open the water cap and it just boils at me (here we go). Tried letting it cool down and filling it up but no luck, just overheats.-The thermostat is working as it give a clear indication of the temp (f**king hot)-The system is workign as there is pressure all around.-HOWEVER the heating inside the car is not blowing hot air?A mate reckons it could be the heater matrix but i have no idea what that is haha need some help big time.Right been tallying up the issues and the fualts trying to problem solve so here we go a detail overview you might be able to help smile.gif1. The water and oil show no sign of oil and water mixture (GOOD SIGN)2. Replaced thermostat rules out that issue (GOOD SIGN)3. The water boild back up to the tank within 10 mins (SIGN OF GONE HEADGASKET sad.gif )4. Removed the air filter to have a better look at everything and there is a feed pipe which is filled with creamy potent shit (like a head gasket had gone BAD sad.gif)5. place thumb over to see if it was an air feed and it built pressure up making the oil over flow out the dipstick? (linked to engine) (BAD SIGN sad.gif )Any thoughts? Again the heaters are not blowing hot air, i have bled the system and that did nothing sad.gifReally stuck this car is being a pain in the arse sad.gifTom Anyone help???? Jolfa
-The thermostat is working as it give a clear indication of the temp (f**king hot) The stat doesn't indicate the temp?-The system is workign as there is pressure all around. Are the bottom and top rad hoses the same temp when the car is at a normal operating temp?-HOWEVER the heating inside the car is not blowing hot air? Blown matrix/clogged heater valves... What car is it...?2. Replaced thermostat rules out that issue (GOOD SIGN) Did you check it in boiling water first? It's not uncommon for them to be faulty off the shelf..4. Removed the air filter to have a better look at everything and there is a feed pipe which is filled with creamy potent shit (like a head gasket had gone BAD sad.gif) In most VW's the oil breather goes to the airbox (why I don't know) but even a healthy engine will kick out nasty headgasket flavoured crap5. place thumb over to see if it was an air feed and it built pressure up making the oil over flow out the dipstick? (linked to engine) (BAD SIGN sad.gif ) Thumb over what? The oil breather, if you block that there's nowhere else for the pressure to go but the dipstick..Is your water pump working..? The Stig
Ihave no idea about the water pump, and it's a 6n 1.6 Cl Polo cheers mate cleared a few things up. pherhaps it's nto game over Tom
Jolfa
Top the coolant right up, then run your engine up to full temperature with the expansion tank cap off, squeeze the radiator hoses while it's warming up taking note the temperature of the top and bottom hoses - the top hose should stay cooler than the bottom until it starts to get up to temperature. Once it gets hot enough the coolant will boil over unless your radiator fan is mighty efficient! At this point switch off and top up the coolant as it goes down. If you've got to this stage and the top radiator hose is still cooler than the bottom one, your thermostat is indeed faulty. See if that sorts anything for now though...Then - I'm not sure if 6n's had heater bypass valves, if you look at the 2 pipes that go through the bulkhead are there big plastic bits inline with a little pipe going between them? Just dont like that set up, up front.this, by all means remove the plate recess but have a propper plate their, because it A. looks shit and B. will be illegal
Tom Booth
Admittedly it'll need to be a white plate, but why's it illegal?
Revolver
Possibly because cameras and the sneaky plate reader on the back of cop cars are calibrated to read plates in the correct place. Sam Ward
Admittedly it'll need to be a white plate, but why's it illegal?size and shape nowadays if it doesnt look like its the same plate that it left the factory with your getting a ticket, ive known people to get done for their plate not having a manufacturer/dealership bit at the bottomtheyve started clamping down like mofo's recently and changed all the laws
RobinJI
Found this thread lurking somewhere in the bowels of TF and thought I'd revive it.Not done too much to the Scirocco recently, just fitted an electric fuel pump and a pressure regulator to replace the mechanical one:Also the lumbar support in my drivers seat gave way on my way up to the malvern mini show earlier, so I need a new seat, and while I'm at it I might as well take the opportunity to rid my self of the hassle of cleaning the rather ghetto 80's white interior. Anyone happen to be selling a good condition black Scirocco interior? Preferably with with a split back bench? *cough* boumsong/singleton *cough*
RobinJI
Cool, how bad are the front seats? all the adjustments work? any rips? I'm not all that fussed about split back seats, just would have been handy. You happen to have the door cards to go with them? mine have got a matching white patch on them. When you say tartan is it this pattern?
