Jolfa
tell us all about this new engine of yours! It's going to be a 1.8 16v KR removed from a 1988 MK2 GTI...
Jolfa
Ah 'decent full beam' it's the stuff of dreams...Atm, I have the dimmest headlights, with a spotlight out, pointing right down at the road, and one of the lights is just kinda balanced behind the grille where it has fallen out again I may aswell have no lights at all to be honest
RobinJI
Ah 'decent full beam' it's the stuff of dreams...Haha, Mine are spot on at the moment, took Super Excellence bulbs in the mails lights and 130W rally bulbs in the main beams to get it that way though. I'll probably be taking the spots off some time though in favour of some hung under the bumper like the original fogs were, much prefer the look of the wider grill. No progress on my engine either with work and christmas and all that shite. RobinJI
Remember Boumsong asking something about TDI gear sets, thought I'd point this out if you haven't seen it yet: Golf GTD box for sale.Would be ideal to stick the gear set into any old housing.Found a load of mayo in my oil this morning, so I'll be sticking the mechanical head on ASAP minus the head work, bit of a shame but the cam should be nice, and maybe the bike carbs if I can sort a manifold out some time.At least it means I've got a few hundred spare to spend on some wheels if I'm not bothering with the engine work. Phatmike
The coolant system froze, I drove it, it all ended badly. And you thought regular top-ups (refills...) of just water would end how?!Alan, you silly silly man.
Jolfa
Note to self: Buy antifreeze.I think the amount of rust and oil in my water is stopping it freezing

_Owen.
Good news, it's all coming to pieces tomorrow/today and getting prep'd for the conversion. We did manage to get the motor running again, but one cylinder wasn't firing until the revs got past 3000rpm, at which point it kicked in. Couldn't suss it so it's all coming out.V-tec with a difference
RobinJI
V-tec with a difference HahaSounds like you're down on compression on that cylinder. So did we ever find out exactly what engine you're sticking in it? All I can remember is that its some sort of 16v, so I'd be guessing it'll be a 2l.
Tom Booth
I'm sure Jolfa let out it's a 1800 KR based engine...
Krisboats
Compression on all cylinders was fine, all where slightly above what I was expecting. No matter, that engine is out now anyway and spread all across the drive and garage floor. The new build will be based on the KR block, though should I get the right amount of time spent on it, it should be around 2.2l, though we'll see how things go. I have a few different blocks and heads to play with, and should be getting my hands on an Audi 5cyl engine at the end of the month, we'll have a play and see what I like. Only trouble with doing a straight KR swap is then air box/fuel/engine management unit will be on the wrong side, being on the right in a 16v Scirocco and on the left in a 16V golf..At least that's what I've been told. Doesn't make sense, I've got a few cars to go and look at over the next few weeks anyway.Got some photos to stick in here when I get home as well, just to show some updates 'n stuff. Matthew_Gibson
=[ Never managed to get the coilies fitted to the Lupo!!!!!. was booked in on Tuesday. But I said if there any work in I'll get that out the way before I start mine. mmm the joys of working in a garage. lol! Need loads doing which is a ball ache. for one the wipers don't work. Its had a new stalk, fues and a motor, to no avail. SO the dash is gettin ripped out, to see if there any brokes wires that could have been there since the dash was out last summer. Engines bay needs a clean, speakers need updating. there starting to dislike my music taste. Gear box need looked at, pops out of reverse. think the clutch is on the way out. hand interior need pulled out and fitted back in. new tyres on the front. the list goes on. Still owe my brother £1300 for it like.
