Jolfa
It was K-Jet, so there weren't actually any real electrics for it, it's all mechanical. I started giving a reason why it wouldn't have worked, but then I realised it still could have with a custom airbox.. The bodge is a touch of class, but I will be getting a proper choke if this sorts the starting issues. It'd be rude not to when theres a choke blank in the MK2 dash to put one in!There's a vacuum takeoff for the oil breather on a standard KR manifold that I was told I could use, but the way I've blocked the injector holes means it no longer creates a vacuum. The manifold I'm getting (just another modified standard one) has those holes plated over properly so I'll be able to use it, and the ports have been extended too, so it'll be easier to bolt it all down too. For £20 I can't go far wrong...
RobinJI
Hows blocking the injector wholes stopped it creating a vacume? Don't really get it. haha.I had heard something about being able to use them as ITB's if you used an airbox, so you could still have the mass air flow meter or something like that. Jolfa
The takeoff at the bottom of the manifold takes a vac from across the injector ports, but the way I've blocked them (with 1p pieces ) means I've blocked off the channel for this vac.K-Jet basically relies on the fuel metering head ontop of the airbox to work, the more air that goes through it, the more fuel it gives the engine - simple. If I were to use an airbox on the carbs and just plumbed the metering head into that, in theory it should do exactly the same job!I'm sure there must be a reason why it wouldn't be that simple though... RobinJI
Ah, I get it with the vacume take off now. I don't see why it wouldn't be that simple to be fair, but who want bike carbs if you cant have exposed trumpets. haha.
Matthew_Gibson
- New wheels are needed. dont like them ones (REAL split rims though) - needs coilovers fitted. - engine sorted (cleaned air feed pipe, green hosing)- interior fixed up. - 9n polo "vw" badge for the back- petrol flap sorted. - black bonnet, with stencil vw logo tagged on in green,

Tom_
f**king euro.Cool as it looks, tyre stretch is clearly not practicle. Also, I dont get the hype around ronal turbos or similar looking rims, look pretty wank IMO.
Matthew_Gibson
personaly i dont like the stretch, but as it wasnt me who put em on I've hit the curb more that once. there only cheap (ish) rims.
Tom_
I wasnt talking about your car lol, mainly that venom one/the scene in general. You go on the forums, and everyones talking about being different. Everyones f**king euro, hows that being different?! Ooo well you get the odd ratty car, thats f**ked up also. Theres a passat near me, nice car, slammed on some BBS' and hes taken an angle grinder to the bonet and roof and f**ked the paintwork/body work totally for no good reason. To look good the whole thing will need a skim with filler and a re-spray. So f**king pointless. Thats providing that its not been left raw so long that its rusted through and totally f**ked.Annoys me alot. I love VAG stuff, but I think the modding scene is shit. RobinJI
Decided on my plan of what to do to the scirocco over the winter. It should be getting; CBR600 carbs on a custom manifold, Kent 268 cam in a worked mechanical tappet head, and a TSR mild steel exhaust manifold. Then a good rolling road session to get it all set up. Don't really have a clue what to expect from it power wise but it should hopefully all work together quite nicely.Anyone got any advice on a good electric fuel pump set-up? or how easy it'd be to stick in the pump from an injection model. Also anyone know of anywhere good in the south west that'd know how to set up bike carb's on a car engine properly?
Tom_
If anyone has any interest I have a 6n polo FS totally mint, 47,000 miles '98 on the R no rust atall totally sound, slight dent on drivers wing, otherwise very good.Never driven by me (so not ragged ) One female owner before it was sold to me, so two registered owners. Its a 1.6 8v CL with a CD player in it. Gearbox etc. all fine, comes with de-badged grill (original included). Only reason Im selling it is because of the stupid price of insurance with Mods, and the fact I already have a 1 litre corsa which to be honest (having to fund driving myself) is far better on insurance.Being a Mint car, with a very good milage Id like £1300 for it, but Im open to offers. Doubt there will be any interest on here so I didnt make a FS thread in classifieds, worth a try though, all advertisments good advertisment I guess. For any budding modders, they do look good, and dont have that chavvy image (the reason I bought it )If you are genuinly interested, Il get you some snaps. I've got 3 spare As for fuel pump, the last thing you want is an injection pump for carbs as they put out 3-5 BAR, and you want about 3 PSI! So you can either buy something like a Facet red/silver top and a fuel pressure reglator (as I have because it was my birthday and they came up at a reasonable price) orrrr the cheaper + probably better option - get the pump off the same bike, as it will deliver the right pressure so you've no need for a reglator = less pissing around No idea about somewhere to set them up, I've only just finished sorting mine out 2 weeks later! I'll be able to give you enough tips and links to do it yourself now though

Tom_
I would happily pay that, but nottinghams too far away After somthing to fiddle with really, learn more about the workings of an engine (Im a firm beliver in learn by doing) and then maybe drop into a VW which I am yet to buy/decide on. Would be perfect. Just too damn far away Edited December 13, 2008 by Tom_
RobinJI
To be honest its just to fill the time until I can insure it with a 1.8 20vt/G60 in there. So I'm not really after an engine swap, just some cheep stuff for the time being. (cam cost me £50 and the carbs £25) And I'll be able to flog it all for reasonable money when I do eventually do an engine swap anyway.I did think that about the injection pumps being to high pressure, but was thinking you might be able to stick a regulator on there. I might just raid the scrappy for a carb'd car with an electric pump, after keeping the cost down. I'm kinda guessing my mechanical pump wouldn't keep up. I'm kinda guessing my mechanical pump wouldn't keep up.To knock the pressure down that much would probably just heat the fuel up, which is obviously bad news!I'm not sure what pressure a standard 'rocco pump would run at - could always get a cheap guage and find out?And I would go with the bike pump if you're on a budget, will cost peanuts, you can guarantee it will work and cuts out the need for a regulator which is just more expense. Could probably use any bike pump really, they'll all deliver about the same pressure I would've thought. I know R1 pumps have an interupter so it will cut temporarily rather than over fuel and flood your engine so others will likely be the same...And Tom_ you could probably pick up a similar engine for similar cash closer to you on CGTI or E38 forum Doing is the only way to learn.
