Erm that one never crashed Matt. :)

(& it was 3 wishbones...)

Robin & Al, yeah I've still got the rocco on my drive, need to get rid of it. If you guys are struggling to get bits, then I'd be happy to start splitting it before it's scrapped.

Just an update on the camper....

It doesn't actually look much different from the outisde, minus the front which I don't have pictures of (the front all straight now and primed)

Don't lie on the forum and expect me to not call on it. Is blurring the truth a hobby of yours? :P

Not that Boomsong cares, just they were hardly bad crashes so I don't see the need to lie. I'm sure it had plenty of replacement wishbones and other front sus components before you got it as well. Its a Scirooco, built to crash :P

Following on from what GT is saying, Sciroccos are awesome fun when things go shit up. I've been in 6 car crashes now and the 'rocco was by far the most fun. It's almost as if the car doesn't complain, it's just gets on with things and makes a horrible mess, then decides it's bored and drives home, regardless of how bad any damage is :P

if I was into that sort of thing, I'd sig that. (Y)

Diagnosis: Broken.

*sob*

I can see a bent track rod, and you're giving up on it?! You could fix that for pence!!!

I launched one of my old Golfs up a curb at 100mph, so hard the windscreen came out, bent just about everything and still put it back on the road!

Right,

I am by no means a car geek, so basic jargon please in response to this question. Ill start with what car i have.

T-reg VW Golf MK4 1.6 S, bogey green :).

Right, I cant remember how long i have had this problem, but i have had the car two years (was second hand) and i think it has been there since the start to be honest. However the problem is as follows;

When i am stationary, with the engine on (idling, i think) the rev counter constantly moves up and down around the 1000rpm mark. One of my mates just bought a new 1.4 golf and his, when idling, stays pretty much dead on the 1000rpm mark. I am sure my car should be idling as his is, and as such would like someone to help me figure out the problem so i can see if i can gte it sorted cheaply?

I had the exact same problem, albeit with a Polo, for the past couple of days and can point you in the direction of a few things to try out first because ultimately they are both VWs!

1. Turn the ignition to the point just before engaging the starter motor and leave it there for a good 30 seconds before turning on the engine. This supposedly tells the ECU to check some boring things in some cases, although didn't work for me.

2. Try disconnecting the battery and leaving it disconnected for an hour or so. Write down any key codes you need for your radio first! This should reset the ECU and when you turn the car back on it should re-calibrate the throttle body to the right idle speed.

3. Clean the throttle body with some good carb cleaner, rather than me type it out you can look elsewhere on the net for how to do this on a golf.

4. Change the temp sender - again do a google search to find out how.

If you do them in that order you should hopefully cure the problem before having to spend any money!

I have that problem with my Scirocco, turn sout it's the idle control valve getting a little bit confused. Can't imagine it casues anything any harm, I kinda like it now I'm used to it :P

Should you wish to solve it, and it turns out the be the control valve, it's more often than not a case of fiddling with the adjuster screw. See Haynes book of lies for methods of adjustment.

on like the l to about y reg vws, the idle control valve/throttle bodies on them coke up something awful, take off the throttle body, an give it a clean out(failing that, just spray some carb cleaner down the air intake with the air filter removed.

I'll have an ask.

And yeah, it's gawwwwjus.

Got any photo's of your car ?

Oh and if you want he's also got a VERY nice set of Rallye Recaro's that will go in there nice :)

Those would sit in a MK4 quite nicely as well I imagine... Don't know about the back seat though... hmn. Out of interest, how much are those going for?

EDIT: remove pics
