andyzplace
Yeah, she's my daily driver. The 1.8 has plenty to offer if driven correctly. Wouldn't mind having a go in a VR to see how much that heavy lump up front effects the handling.
minitrialer
Got my second mk2 golf gti the other day. 8 valve though, and picked up a mk3 2.0 g8 gti engine up including weighted rod, ecu, loom , diesel gearbox, dizzy, etc for 62! Now got 2 mk2 golf gti's, and 3 engines! Many plans at the moment! Pics up soon!
RobinJI
Coilovers fitted Although its sitting at a rediculous angle at the moment as I didnt finish till late last night and couldnt be arsed with cocking around setting the height.I need to remove the helper springs from the front ones to get it to sit low enough, and then wind the back up untill its level, hopefully get it corner weighted and sort out all the elignment soon enough too. RobinJI
What have you gone for? coilovers or springs/shocks? The coilovers caused a bit of an issue as you have to have it set pretty heigh to clear the front tyres, but hopefully with the helper springs removed they should go down about another inch, then when I get new wheels they should clear nicely and let me set it wherever.Springs and shocks would be pretty easy though, but obviously you'll need spring compressors to put the top caps on with the new stuff.Just so you know, to do it you're gunna need: a 17mm and 13mm socket and a 17mm spanner, a 7mm alenkey, a dropended 22mm spanner (or one of those funky hollow socket things halfords sell.) and spring compressors.Edit: oh, and a little adjustable spanner Edited August 9, 2008 by RobinJI
RobinJI
sweet, yeah, I was guessing you'd have most of it, but its just the 7mm alen key and 22mm drop ended spanner that are a bugger, 7mm isnt on any bike related sets, and the drop ended spanner needs to be pretty deep, and isnt found in most modern tool kits. But yeah, pretty easy job really. What coilovers have you got then?

Then just do all the bottom bolts/nuts yourself Easily do it in an hour if you do it that way, including fag/tea breaks

Didnt think of the spark plug socket thing, but my 7mm wouldnt have been long enough to reach down one anyway, but I'll remember that for the future, cheers. The small adjustables just to hold the centers of the rear shocks to get the top nut off, although its probably a 6mm spanner or something, but my set only goes down to 8.Like you say, an air gun is the easy'st way to do the top nuts, but no-where was open when I did mine at 6pm on a friday. Jolfa
The 9a's are found in Corrado's and are transverse. The 6a and ACE is from the Audi 80 sport 16v, and is longitudinal.I used a 6a in my Golf, purely because an 80 is such a cheap donor car, you just bolt all the mounts, brackets, pulleys and manifolds from any transverse 16v straight onto them (which all came off my dead KR that was in it in the first place), whereas the 9a is all ready to go. The ACE is the same as the 6a (but from the facelift Audi 80's) but apparently the oil filter and housing comes off at the wrong angle so you end up with clearance issues, but again, you can swap the whole housing over. The Audi donor I got, cost me £175 off ebay, and I made a large portion of that back selling all the bits off it

Pashley26
So basically..He cut up a Rallye, crushed the vin numbered sections, and is now going to rebuild it...Beast.No.Why would he just cut up a Rallye for the fun of it ? He's done something simply monumental to get the car that he loved back. So show him some respect and read the thread before saying something stupid.
