Dan Clark
Ernie Ball strings sound super nice out of the packet, but lose their new sound fairly quickly, in a few weeks.D'Addario sound more metallic out of the packet, not really as good as Ernie Ball, but I find their new sound lasts a lot longer, I've never broken one as well, but I am a fairly light player.I haven't used Gibson strings before. GaZaa
Are most types of string made on the same production line anyway and then just packaged up differently though?
Dr. Nick Riviera
also , would it sound like hate if i put normal strings on a spanish guitar? i've recenty got one to f**k around with
chrishayton
normal strings on a spanish sound pretty awful and would not be gud for the neck as the tension will be different to nylon strings/super slinks are great but XLs are better and last longer
Mark W
Are most types of string made on the same production line anyway and then just packaged up differently though? No. Pretty much. Different wrapping techniques, different materials, different cores, different grades of material, etc. They're all fairly widely different. Mark W
I'm <3ing the Schaller straplocks. Way nicer (IMO) than Dunlaps or whatever they're called. Work really well, pretty cheap - I'd have 'em on my 6 string bass if the damn screw-holes weren't too large (can't be arsed filling & drilling). Dunlop polish works pretty well. I can't remember what it's called, but my guitar friend Alan uses "fast-fret" or something to wipe the strings + shit down? For pups for basses, just check out whichever is the most you can afford, really. The more dorrah the better as a general rule? What are you using currently?

benno
Heh, I'm bored so I'm gonna try and reply to as many questions as I can.First, whoever it was asking about putting metal strings on a spanish guitar, DON'T! They have no truss rod to counteract the force that non-nylon strings will exert and the tension would literally pull the neck out of the body, search google for some images for proof.Second, don't fit your Bigsy thing! They're ugly IMO and totally useless as tremolos, no stability at all. You're guitar looks fine as it is, why subject it to unnecessary tuning problems?Third, if you've got a mic on your computer that you can get somewhere near your guitar you'll love AP Tuner. Sexy little beast of a tuner that's pretty much all I use to tune my guitar now.No, idea about the May signature guitar I'm afraid, I would hae got one but the scale was too short for my big fat hands! They sound LUSH through the little Vox Brian May Deacy amps, shame that.Hope I helped someone somehow in there...Ben
Lawnmowerman
To start off with should i get a bass or a normal guitar?
Dan Clark
Do you want to play bass or guitar? If you eventually want to play guitar, there's no advantage in starting on bass at all.I would say the switch from guitar to bass is easier, but why bother learning all the guitar stuff when you could have used that time to practice bass, and visa versa. Mark W
Word, Mr. Dan. Just go to a music shop, try out both, and see which you prefer really. They are hugely different instruments, so just go with what feels best...bass pwnz
Dan Clark
bass is for people who are crap at playing guitar
Mark W
"Oh noes, I need my strings to be almost touching because that way I can mash my non-dextrous fingers across the fret board and call it a 'barre chord' or something."Whatever Haha, nah, I just prefer the flexibility and versatility of bass. I know guitars are too and all that, but it just seems there's more scope to find your own voice with bass, as long as you don't end up part of the "bass around my knees play with a pick with no skill" crew.Lot of money in it though \
