My new toy has arrived B)

Schecter C1-Plus, mahogany body with flame maple top, Duncan Design pickups, set neck, string through, Grover tuners. Plays really nicely, and is a bit of a rarity over here.

And the rest of my collection, in order, Fender acoustic, Ibanez RG550, Schecter C1-Plus, Vintage bass.

Plays really nice, and a lot different to my Ibanez, which is what I was looking for. Looks f**king amazing too I think.

Thats really nice. love the flame maple top. it what way does it play different to the ibanez? is it action? i find the action on my ibanez freakishly low, tis nice for fast or legato stuff but bit of a bitch for alot of things

btw if you dont mind me asking how much that set you back?

It cost £399 from Sound Control, which I thought was pretty nice for the money.

The necks a lot slower than the Ibanez due to it being painted and thicker, the action isn't too different. It sustains a lot longer than my Ibanez and because of the lack of floyd, I can switch tunings really quick.

It's got 3 pickup postions and a coil tap on all of them too, so its really versatile. Because its mahogany it sounds darker and more rawr than the Ibanez.

I'll be using the Ibanez for soloing and faster stuff, and anything with a whammy bar, and I love the single coil on my Ibanez for quiet acoustic songs.

Perfect combo really.

That largely depends on the finish of the back of the neck. If it's got a satin finish (I think that's what it's called) they play really nicely. Shit, even with fully painted ones they're often OK. To each their own though I guess.

Looks cool Dan, cool to see you got it in the end :) Have fun playing it (Y)

Looks beautiful.

Since this topic has attracted the guitar crew, can someone give me some advice (sorry for it being off topic).

I've had a Les Paul replica for the last year and a bit, which I bought off a mate, but never learnt anything properly on it because I can't take it serious enough to sit down for hours on end playing, or I loose inspiration to play. I think it is mainly because it's a real downer on my playing morale how I can never fret cleanly, and always produce a buzzing, plus I find to grip the neck in the correct way with my thumb in the middle of the back, my left hand/arm posture is really awkward, sorta like I have to twist my hand further around the guitar than most people get away with. Also, (I think because my guitar is second hand and old) the fretboard feels nowhere near as nice on the fingers as some of my mate's nice guitars have felt when I've had a play.

I really wanna find the inspiration to learn, but I think I can only do that with a bit of help to get over these things...

Do you think buying something really different with bags of space to move hands around on, like this:

Might help?

P.s. What do you think of this?

Mmmm, Schecter. I bid on a Schecter Stiletto Studio 4 a while back on eBay, got sniped by a lucky chancer. ( Who 1 year later tryed to sell it to me for £320, having payed only £200 for it.)

Now I want the Studio 6, they just play so well. Love 'em.

SQuit-man, avoid WESLEY. Seriously. When you start playing it's not really about what you are playing (so long as it has strings and keeps tune) because you will no doubt find your preferances as you learn to play. You just need the motivation. (Y)

To be honest, clean-fretting and getting the 'posture' is pretty much just about grafting away at it, really. You've just gotta practise. However, you can try altering the setup. If you're a relative 'noob' to guitars though, that might be a bit sketchy as a wrong turn of the truss rod for example can rape your neck for life, and you can make it worse rather than better - however, if you wanna give it a go I'm sure we can give you a hand on here. Alternatively, take it to a music shop? Either way, you can still alter the setup (Y)

How do you 'practise' or just play? Do you try and learn songs or just noodle away on your own? If you're finding it not particularly rewarding, just try learning a favourite song of your's, or a song you like the sound of. Just learn all of it - not just the verse melody or something. Just gradually get more stuff under your belt, then practise it and get it right. When you listen to yourself playing something well, you can really get an idea of how well you're progressing which might make playing guitar more fulfilling for you?

If you like the feel of other guitars though, just go to a music shop and try out all the guitars you can afford, then maybe splash some cash? People always buy up Les Pauls or Les Paul replicas, so you could probably generate some money from that too.

Don't forget there are about a million ways a guitar can feel different to another. It could just be you don't like the neck profile of the Gibson, the action, etc., so just try stuff out before you buy it (Y)

Oooooooh, when was the last time you bought new strings for it? If you haven't, get some new ones - I usually find some fresh strings make it all sound nicer and feel better to play, so that might benefit you. You could also try a smaller gauge (lighter feel) to make it a bit easier to learn on.

Cheers for the help guys.

Mark- I normally just used to practice on my own, learning metallica riffs, or stairway to heaven intro, or stuff liek that, but it just really put me off (other than the awkward hand posture contributing) that it seemed that however long I practiced for, I wasn't getting "the feel" for the guitar, and I ALWAYS produced a buzz when I played anything other than insanely ridiculously slow, from not pinning the frets perfectly, however hard I tried to concentrate.

I think my strings need replacing now, but I'd rather just sell my guitar and start afresh.

I was looking at wesley guitars in particular because reviews for all of their recent guitars are absolutely amasing, and a few of my mates have their guitars and are really majorly impressed by their value (I don't wanna spend much, incase I don't get into guitaring properly, and besides I dont have much money).

SQuit-man, avoid WESLEY. Seriously. When you start playing it's not really about what you are playing (so long as it has strings and keeps tune) because you will no doubt find your preferances as you learn to play. You just need the motivation. (Y)

Haha, the only mate I have who isn't bumming Wesley is called Haz- is ur name short for Hazim? He has a Wesley as one of his guitars, and thinks its amasing, strangely, but thinks it is just "lucky" of him to get a good guitar from them, as he seems to have some sort of grudge against the make.

What puts you off Wesley? Have you ever played one? And was it electric or acoustic, old or new?

I have played three of their basses and 1 of their guitars. They were all poorly make with horrible hard to adjust knobs, no real tone what so ever (par for the course with acrylic) and they just arn't fun. They look pretty sweet, but that's about it.

As for the fret-buzz, perhaps look at the action (a combination of relief on the neck and saddle height of the bridge). They guys on here can probably set you up with some sweet set up tips. It's probably the set up which is putting you off, playing on a badly setup instrument when you are starting would probably put you off. It'll give your guitar a new lease of life and it'll cost much less (nothing if you do it yourself).

Haz is short for Harry, btw.
