Walleee
So im 99% set on buying a monty 221pr, unless someone can show me a similar priced frame offering the same amazing looks, and (i hope) durability.... (will not touch any python styled bike)Now I want to have this set up as close to original as possible, and when building up bike's from scratch before I have never really cared too much about rideability. Now i've noticed that on most monty's now, they are running riser bars as opposed to flat bars. Would I be right in thinking that an Echo Hi-Fi (145*25) stem would be a fairly good match for the 221 pr?The monty 221 TI runs a 150mm; 26 degree rise stem, keeping in mind that the PR is based on the TI, with some minor differances, would it be safe to say that the hi-fi, along with monty risers would be a sufficient cockpit layout? Also looking for a headset and a bottom bracket to fit. Thinking along the line of a cane creek c2 and either an onza or VP/echo square taper Bottom Bracket. Are these any good, has anyone got any horror stories to tell about them? What i'm looking for is alternative's to the components i've mentioned incase i've missed something glaringly obvious. Also, does anyone know where one could attain the original stem off the full build 221pr's? That would sort out all my problems....... CurtisRider
in my experience on the older montys, the shorter lower stems with risers felt a bit cramped, i ran a hi rise viz (like t master) stem with 2 inch rise bars which felt amzing for pretty much everything i would try out a few combinations when you get it just a pointer if it makes any difference-im 6ft2 and i used the bike for streety style riding, so i liked it uber responsiveas for headset/bb, the c2 seems to be ok, but ive heard of a few busting-hasnt that monty got an internal headset? if not, get yaself a fsa pig/pig pro, both awesome headsets and last ages-and the extra few grams in weight isnt going to kill you in terms of bb, get a shimano un52/3-the deore/lx version, they are simple, solid and cheap bbs that last ages, keep away from the xt ones, cos the mix of a hollow axle and the extra length and leverage of a wide bb for a mod=snap happy cant say i have really bothered to try any other bbs in square taper, cos ive never seen any point
Hobnobs
Anywhere that sells monty stuff can get the 221pr stem in. Un52 BB, in 122.5mm length would be good. Cane creek s2 is a good headset and only £25Stem, i would recomend a high rise like the echo team, with zoo risers.
Walleee
Hmm, Thanks for the responses guys.Im actually running an FSA pig at the moment in my X-Hydra and it's absoutley fine, so I guess i'll stick with that, provided it isn't internal. Looking at the 2006 monty catalogue it looks to be a standard headset....http://monty.es/bikes/2006/pdf/221pr.jpgCan anyone confirm that for me?Good to know monty stockist's will be able to get me the stem in, any idea of a price for them at all? With regard to BB's I think im running an lx at the moment so i'll probobly go with that again, wouldn't I be better to get a 127mm one as im going to be running front freewheel, initially ACS and then the tensile freewheel when it's available. Hobnobs
As far as i know, the 2006 frame isnt available at the moment, we can only get the 2005's anyway. They should be available fairly soon though i think. It is indeed a normal headset, so stick with that. As for stem price, probably around £30, but i will check.
