How Do I Get A Card Which Allows Me To Have An Over Draft?

who do you bank with and what account do you have at the moment? Is it a kids (under 18) one or do you have a proper current account yet? I'm with Nationwide and got a flex account when i was 18, and you can request for an overdraft of up to £1000 with no hassle at all- no credit checks, just done on the spot. You should be able to get an overdraft of this size from most banks I would have thought.

Yeah you wont be able to get an overdraft with one of them, but you can easily get a current account if your 18. Just go into your branch, fill the forms out and you should be able to get one the same day (just have to wait for Visa card through post) then you can get an overdraft if you ask them.

Not sure about Halifax, but I was using my overdraft and got up to about £900 (Im a student) on my Nationwide account for like 6 months and only got charged a small amount every month. Didnt get hassle asking to pay it off either. But obviously thats not a great idea if you can avoid it.

Move to Nationwide. That Howard is a twat :P

This brotha knows where it's at. Im with nationwide too and only have an overdraft of £50 for when my phone bill comes in just incase i havn't got the money in their . Nationwide have really simple internet banking too which is a real advantage for me, i would definately recommend them. Just make wure you put an overdraft limit on the account otherwise when you do overdraw, you would get a penalty. Ie. You can be overdrawn without arranging an overdraft....

Ai...nationwide is where its at people :)

I just got my new flex account card through the post this morning..and when i was in there the other day...straight away on the screen it said i could have £290 overdraft...which i was quite happy about.

Few days previosly i also placed £3400 in a long term savings acocunt which goes on the ftse...so afetr 5 years or so, i could be f**ked :P - oh well i would never take the money out if its lower than what i put in.

But yer, been with nationwide since i was born.......(then when i was like 15 - opened an account with natwest , who may i add are f**king useless) - Nationwide for the win :D

I have a £1500 overdraft with my HSBC (student) account, and it's interest free (Until after I graduate). I think next year it goes up to £1750 too B)

Ditto :- I wouldn't recommend an overdraft to anyone, especially to non students as it becomes imposssible to pay off. If you go over your overdraft limit your hit with bank fees, bouncing direct debits, the fees from the bouncing direct debits, etc. Worse than a credit card in that respect.
