fruitbat
depends really if you use your gears anyway. I have always run single speed, still got the mech on but the adjustor bolts have been messed with so its only in on gear.So in basic if u aint gonna use them yeah why not, if u think u will use ther other gears then don't change it Edited February 19, 2006 by fruitbat

Rich J
Well if you dont use them then you may as well go single speed. I think gears are a hassle anyway and its just another one of many things that could go wrong! Edited February 19, 2006 by dickj
Trials Boy
Every trials bike i will have will be single speed, i cant stand gears.
Street Lee
I can't see the point in taking them off if they work OK. I run SS but only cause my mech and cassette were f**ked and I've never been a fan of gears anyway, come from a BMX background.
roby James124
Hisome people like gears because they use a different ratios for street and then natural but on the other people just leave it and if you do have gears its some thing else to go wrongrob
Bazz
My last bike had a 9 speed cassette on the back but i just removed the shifter and locked the rear mech in place so it was running single speed My next bike i'm going to build with a single speed setup, Gears just get annoying its one more thing on the bike that can go wrong, The last thing you want in the middle of a move is the gears to slip or jump, It hurts trust me... Adrian
gears suck, so find a ratio you like and use single speed, theres nothing to go wrong.. adrian
TomN
Yes, you'll save some lil weight, looks simple and cleaner, easy to take out after and that....plus get a cog like king or surly so it wont dig into your hub
<PACE>
I used to run with gears but found after a while it kept on jumping from gear to gear so i changed and it is much nicer to have single speed. This then means you can change between different gear ratios to suit yourself.
Yorkshire Dale
yea jus leave the rear mech on and use a bit of cable to hold it in placeworks for me? single speed converters jus bend under trials pressure!

cvtrial
If you are going to ride competitions, natural trials, you need to have 6 available mech's on your casette! But, if you're not going to ride competitions, it has to be your choice!
