poopipe
that probably won't workit sounds like you've got something similar to CWS (don't worry too much, you probably won't lose any data) check your default homepage URL in internet options - it probably points to a .dll file or something else weird - if it looks normal (ie. ends in html), set it to default - this should make the URL look weirddo a google search for the name of the file in your default homepage - this will probably tell you exactly which spyware/trojan you've contracted and hopefully furnish you with something to remove it.if not there's a possibility you'll find some weird named folders in C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Local Settingslater versions of CWS squirrelled their shite away in much harder to find places than that so i wouldn't be too hopeful on that frontgood luckand don't enter any credit card details till you're rid of it
nmt_oli
yeah- Cool Web Search- google it, there is a special program some guy wrote just to remove this. i had it and it crippled my old computer, took a week to get it sorted. unfortunately, the guy got fed up of rewriting the uninstaller every month to keep it up to date with the new versions of CWS, so it may not work if you have a new version.i think the program is called cool web shredder or something. good luck! Also, to stop programs running (making them unshutdownable) boot up in safe mode, then run antivrius/adware. tank_rider
i have found that while adaware is good for some things, spybot search and destroy is better, give that a go, it should help sort you out
munkee
Any one mentioned starting the pc up in safe mode then running adaware?

trials_pimp
right, ive got ad aware, spybot search and destroy, spyware doctor, hi-jack this and only ad aware can find it, and it cant get rid of it, if you find the file and try to delete it manualy it says you cant, and we just run registry doctor and it found 16 registry faults.this is gay and it wont disapear
nmt_oli
If you have cool web search you WILL need cool web shredder to get rid of it!

nmt_oli
Remove it from the device list, download some drivers, reinstall and point windows installation wizard to the new drivers
trials_pimp
Right, it turns out I have to have special drivers, as standard ones dont work.Yea my PC started out as a parkard bell.Anyway, thats sorted, but now Outlook is being gay.It wont accept one of the passwords for one of my e-mail accounts, keeps saying its wrong. But that very same password works if I manualy check the e-mail through the site, and it used to work on outlook
Danny
Switch to firefox as well. That will stop you getting as much spyware.I remember using IE on my friends laptop on a fresh windows install and managed to get it totally crippled by spyware within 5 minutes As for removing it try Adaware, Spybot S&D and hijack this. Tony Harrison
Yeah, you should definitely be using Firefox. Also, some of the ones that change your homepage, etc, are IE add-ins. If you go to Internet Options in Control Panel you can turn off all third-party browser extensions, and this sometimes helps.
