Trials Needs A George French!

isnt that the case with most hubs though? well at least cassette hubs

It's different with freecoasters, because of the way the engaging section moves along the threaded axle which allows you to coast, or allows you to pedal and engage the hub. If that's bent, it's harder to actuall move the section to the engaging area = booboo. Bent axle on a standard hub with a cassette isn't the end of the world for it in quite the same way.

For more, read this:

(Photobucket's probably resized it. If it has, I'll sort it...) [EDIT: Rehosting now] [EDIT#2: Imageshack 1, Photobucket 0]

To be able to read it without straining your eyes so much you go blind, buy the latest RideBMX magazine :P

I guess there's not that much innovative stuff for trials just because the shit we use is either borrowed from other industries where it's already been tested and found to be OK (e.g. brakes, bars to some extent, tyres to some extent, etc.), coupled to the fact we're at the start of the real, full-bore trials boom, so it's all being done fresh, if you get me? Stuff like the GU frame - that's innovative, but it's like we're used to having new frames and stuff so it doesn't seem so fancy. In BMX, stuff doesn't change all that quickly (e.g. stems), so something like the Elementary rocks the boat quite a bit.

heatsink cnc magura backings

leeson 6 bolt booster

hope pro trials hub..hopefully

I haven't actually seen the heatsink backings before, so I can't comment, but I guess they aren't gonna be much different from standard backings but in alu.

Leeson 6 bolt booster is crap I've heard, adding two bolts is hardly amazing.

Hope pro trials hub seems the same design as any other hub, but beefed up a bit. King's Ringdrive is revolutionary, but wasn't designed for trials.

Just like to add that the Oddy Elementary stem was designed by the same person as the rim mentioned earlier and author of the above article. Soon to be out are the Oddyssey "Wombolt" 2 piece cranks which again, are revolutionary in the way they tighten the crank arm onto the spindle with wedges instead of splines.

Yeah, it's pretty cool to see George's ideas able to reach their full potential by having the backing of Odyssey for testing, development and retail. If you look at George's bike you can see he's constantly coming up with new stuff, so having the good products he's developed able to be bought is all good :)

This is George's bike (home-made frame, etc.)

There's some cool stuff, like instead of having the lower gyro cables there's just two plates that connect to what's basically a monster straddle cable:

But yeah, it's all good. I mean, personally that frame looks gash to me, but it's got stuff like angled bosses on the chainstays to solve the same problem that the Fly brake hoped to solve. Just little stuff like that :)

More info, plus you can check out the other mods he's done on other's bikes.
