im 6ft+ and have a short curtis. i get on with it fine. just trust your brake.

Thats the main reason why i cant do them i think because my back brake is sh1t and i cant get verical enough or i just flip it.I did quite a few more using two fingers on the brake but this makes it harder to hop (N)

<_< Been trying them again but with a v-brake as my maggy's a bit fecked. No matter how much I try I can only get about a foot max.

I can balance on the back wheel fine but I think rely on the pedal kick too much and don't throw my weight forward. If I try to use my weight though I end up going nowhere or doing a wheelie type thing! It's so annoying!

Use one finger. Seriosuly, it makes it so much easier!

Sounds to me like you just have to kick harder?

And you need to learn how to sychronise (sp?) letting go of the brake, and kicking the pedals at the same time. Then braking just after you kick.

Not hard but tiring.

I find it hard to backhop up stuff and keep the front wheel in the air to keep backhoping :S

I know what you mean...i can only keep my front wheel up for a few seconds :$ ...guess i practise more on different stuff and not the basics :-

I can keep it up for long enough...just that i'd like to be able to keep it up for ages so you have that option. Glad im not the only one :D

2 things help with that.

1. lighter forks/bars/stem

2. use your arse rather than your arms to keep the front up - ie. have bendy knees not straight knees. Dont bounce for the sake of it either - you only need to bounce to correct your balance

Hello,

Here is my step to step guide of what to do,

1= Bring yourself up to back wheel,

2= Do some small hops to gain balance

3= Slightly lower your front wheel not to much

4= Bring back your pedal (your good foot)

5= let go of rear brake

6= kick the pedal forward while at the same time jumping/shifting your weight forward and pull on the brake.

Thats the movements, it will take some time to perfect and all the steps will link in very quickly with each other, also watch some videos. (Y)

Bhups. (the edited version)

I'm doing everything you're saying, but can you explain what you mean by weight shifting?

Don't have a video camera so can't take a vid (N)

its when u move ur arse backwards and fowards to stop u tippin over the back or droppin the front end!

hope that helps

like everyone is sayin jus kick ur pedals and let go of the rear brake! the rest will cum with practice? took me bout a week!! B)

Right i sort of learnt how to pedal hop this one was from monday i also have one from tuesday and wednesday

Clicky

Dont laugh to hard ive only been riding a week :)

Looks alright. You need to slow it down a bit though, you can do it yes, but it just doesn't look very controlled.

I see it as the more vertical the bike its the easier is it to balance it. No weight on the front end, or back...its all central with your body and you can control it a lot more. You'll crack it eventually, everyone does and when you do its make riding loads more fun.

Just take your time with hopping, find your balancing point which is the most awkward bit...get a good solid brake and see how far you can take it back...try not to be afraid of going all the way back. :)

Its the hardest thing to explain how to do, every trials rider does it naturally without even thinking about it and it just becomes something you never forget...like riding a bike. But could you explain to someone how to ride a bike? how to balance it?

Work at it, its a good feeling when you crack it :)
