trialsguru
right ive just got a 24 and i need to build my back wheel, its going to by a sun rhyno lite on hope mono but what length spokes will i need? obviously without having the rim yet i cant work out the erdalso i need a rear tyre, ive ridden maxxis tyres for about 2yrs on 26" but it seems they dont do 24" tyres in 2.35 in the 2ply casing, what other equivilant tyres are there to the grip and puncture resistance of the maxxis?thankspete
Todge
Why not get the maxxis 2.5?I run one and they are very impressive. With the bigger maxxis tyres height is more of an issue rather then width if your struggling for room in your frame. trialsguru
well the frame ive got is a second hand leeson which is identical to kris leeson's frame, not sure what size it can take yet, only thing with that size is that i want to have a fast rolling tyre so thinner the better

trialsguru
Look here for tyres - All Things 24"ive had a look in there thanks mate only thing i can see worth riding is maybe those blue dragons but theyre 2.1" on crc, does anyone know if its a big 2.1" as their 2.3" dh's are more like 2.5's hehe
ghosts_cloak
Hi, Kris' frame is about 1010mm, +20, 380mm chainstays, 73/74 headangle if I remember correctly, because its almost the same as mine (he said mine rides almost exactly like his). He has special thin tubing though to save weight, but Mr Leeson wont build customer frames that light so they dont break!I (recommened by the Leesons) use Schwalbe 2.4inch tires, which fit fine (prob could get wider in but I would have to check)Hope that helps, Gareth
011001000110010101110010
DO NOT BUY A BLUE DRAGON. As soon as you leave the tarmac it will loose any grip it had. I had mine for 3 weeks, it wore down quickly and didnt grip at all. At the moment im running a tioga comp X. Its like a race bmx tyre, great grip and pretty stretty. Tomm
I had a 2.7 Maxxis (in a Leeson 609) and it was way too big, it just folded really easily on the rhyno rim. I'm now got a Maxxis Swampthing 24x2.50 and it's great, much less foldage than the 2.7, but it's still not a small tyre by anyone's standards. So that's what I'd recommend. I had a White Dragon as a front tyre and it was pretty nice. A bit light for a rear for me, but you might get away with it if you like high pressures. And the 2.1 is pretty wide I guess, maybe a 2.25 or something by Maxxis standards.
trialsguru
hey gareth, the guy i bought the frame from used to use the schwalbe tyres i think he had racing ralphs but the sidewalls looked stupidly thin and he punctured all the time with them, do schwalbe make anything with thicker walls? what are the ones you are using?thanks
011001000110010101110010
Comp X rear tyre and Maxxis Holy Roller, the lightest 24 tyre combination possible.

They are very light, but big volumes so nice and bouncy! Ive had two punctures since last october (touch wood), both in the front tyre! And neither of these were pinches, one was a drawing pin and the other was a shard of glass. I just have cheapo 26 inch inner tubes (lol) in too, maybe I have just been lucky! I dont know about other tires really, but as far as I know they are the only decent 24" they make.Hope that helps, Gaz

Steve-A
Comp X rear tyre and Maxxis Holy Roller, the lightest 24 tyre combination possible. Whats the actual weights of those tyres? I thuoght I couldn't get mucvh lighter than my Schwable Racing ralf for front ( 450g) and Moto Digger for back ( 650g)
011001000110010101110010
Maxxis Holy Roller is 620g, ill edit when I find the Tioga weight. The Schwable site says the Racing Ralph is 535 g?DMR site says 750 g for the moto digger? Is that the 26" version instead of the 24"? Edited February 14, 2006 by derf
trialsguru
has anyone tried the kenda tyres? also on the schwalbe site it looks like they do a al mighty tyre with a heavy duty side wall has anyone tried those aswell? ideally i want something similar to the maxxis bling bling, low profile but with a good compound and puncture resistancethanks again Edited February 14, 2006 by trialsguru
trialsguru
all terrain cycles seem to be doing a few 24 tyres herei didnt know schwalbe made the space in
rich4130
My experience of 24" tyres..Front:Spesh Roller 2.5" big profile, great grip, ok wear rate, 650g, paper sidewalls! Tioga Comp3 2.1" well narow, mine was narrower than everybody elses, does the job, cheap, look cool too.Halo Choirboy lite, 2.3" bit overkill, like 980g or something, good beadlock, ran one on the rear for a while, grips ok in the summer, pinched it a bit, not too bad.Rear:Maxxis 2.5" heavy, 1150g? pinched it once, but I'm pretty harsh and pinch everything, big tyre, felt well crap at first, 'cos of extra eight, but they are the best tyre for trials.Tioga Factory DH 2.3"Look great, pinch like anything, pinched it 4 times in a day, grip ok when new, in dry, wear down pretty quick, fold unless rock hard, I think i was 50 psi I ended running mine at = no bouncyness obviously... Brian Bleech
i run a maxxis 2.5 swampthing, they are pretty good and are a bit smaller than the 2.5 high rollers. irc kujo is alright too, i way prefer the maxxis, but its dece.have a look at arrow racing tires too http://www.arrowracing.commikeEDIT: the 47 duro arrow launch tire could be pretty good, maybe! Steve-A
Maxxis Holy Roller is 620g, ill edit when I find the Tioga weight. The Schwable site says the Racing Ralph is 535 g?DMR site says 750 g for the moto digger? Is that the 26" version instead of the 24"? The weights I quoted were those i measured from my tyres hanging from scales, but I guess my tyres are probably missing quite a bit of tread.
