Jaffacakes
Ok my mate has got some gold try all rims which he want's the paint off so it will go with his monty. So far we have tried white spirits and it didn't do a awful lot, So I scrubbed it for about 5 mins with the back of a sponge (the green slightly abrasive bit) with white spirits and it sort of came off but by the time I had done about 5cm's of a side wall the sponge was nackered So has anyone got any bright ideas to get it off?Cheers people
Ali C
caustic soda gets it off very easily, but dont mix it too strong as it can eat through the rim

ScotchDave
Yeah, but it's also so poerful that if you don't dilute it enough it's goodbye skin.

Danny
Anodising is not paint. As far as i know but im probably wrong the caustic soda removes the layer of oxidation thats on top of the color protecting it.
ScotchDave
Pretty much, it's a poweful base, and the oxidation on the rim is amphoteric (acts as acid or base) stripping the aluminium oxide and any colour in it.
