Tom Booth
At the minute i love my bb7, But the cables some crappy 2.99 thing from my local bike shop, and the levers an avid speed dial 5 (i think). As of lat the brakes become reallly horible feeling due to the lame cable, and the brake lever blisters my finger quite badly, so Any opinions on what lever cable i should go for?I've been looking and i think im going to go for an XTR lever, But not sure on a cable? Looking at the odyssey slic linear, Seems quite good. I'd Love a Nokon cable, But cant justify spending 30 quid on a cable, and how do you shorten the outer on a nokon?CheersTom
nb88
XTR + Oddysey slic
Ben Geary
and how do you shorten the outer on a nokon?I think you take a few of them bead things out to shorten it to how you want. haydon_peter
XTR Lever You cant go wrong with XTR or Oddysey cable outer although if you have the money Nokon outer is stupidly solid!I have been running an XTR lever with XTR outer for nearly 2 year now, some people complain that my lever is a bit spongey but I have never had any complaints about the set up! Mark W
I've got an XTR lever at the moment, and it doesn't really feel any better than the SD7s I used to run, except it's nowhere near as adjustable, which is annoying. Ah well, at least people think it looks cool Nah, I guess it's an OK lever, but I reckon the Avids are better.Running a Clarks inner and outer at the moment, and it's starting to die I think, so I might change it, although my front disc is pwning at the moment. It's gone ultra nice over the past couple of days, so I don't wanna f**k it up by changing a cable or summat
the judge
I'm running an xtr lever and linear slic cable. It feels nice and smooth, and really solid i.e. not flexy.
Dan Jones
I'm running the XTR cable it feels good. I used a nokon for a while it gave a very solid feel but i don't know of any where you can just buy the inner casing that's inside the metal parts. So when you wear it out you might have problems.I think as long as you have a cable that does not have a coating i.e. Teflon, you can make it work pretty well with some GT85 or something similar. The coated cables seem to work ok at first but when the coating wears off it just seems to clog up the cable.Be careful if you are spraying lube on the cable with the disc!!! I learnt that lesson... If you get some cable oilers (middleburn make some) it makes it really easy to lube your brake. Edited February 12, 2006 by trialsy
Luke Drewery
I run an XTR lever with a cheapo fibrax cable from my local bike shop with my BB7, and it works amazingly and has done for the past 8 months or so. I havent changed the pads or the cable once yet since I got the brake and it still works great. I would never spend £30 on a brake cable.
