Solution to slow DL speeds for Deng/similar vids

Right, now that there seems to be 2.5 million companies starting up in China (e.g. ZhiBikes, Benc, etc.), and they're releasing videos all the time - not to mention the ones that come from Deng-sponsored riders most of the time - people are complaining about slow DL speeds.

To make them download faster, all you've got to do is head to Download.com and get a download resumer. The one I use is DLExpert. It's probably not great, but it's pretty easy to use and alter settings and so on, so it's more than enough for the occassional video. But yeah, the main purpose of this was just to highlight to people that you can get the vids way faster using a DL resumer. That Benc vid was dling at 222bytes per/sec for me last night, so I used DLExpert and instead of taking 5 1/2 hrs, it took 10 mins. Think the max speed it got was just under 100kb/sec, on a 2.2mbps BB connection. I know that's not great in comparison to other sites, but it's still a load better than as standard.

So yeah, DL resumers for the win and all that.

How would a download resumer speed up downloads?

Ones like DLExpert download it in bits. For example, I have it set to 30 threads. That means that it'll download more of the it, yeah? If you imagine it was 25 threads, each would DL 4% of it. Therefore, you're downloading more at once, hence faster speeds. Geddit?

*sigh*

Right.

You download it without, say, DLExpert. You start off at 0%, and work your way up to 100%, at 25kb/sec.

You download it with DLExpert, using 4 threads. Thread 1 starts at 0%. Thread 2 at 25%. Thread 3 at 50%. Thread 4 at 75%. As you're going, you're basically working up from each of those. Therefore, it'd have 4 DLs going at 25kb/sec, yeah? So theoretically, it'd take 1/4 of the time. This isn't how it works, but hopefully you'll get it now :P

For those having problems, I use this - http://www.freedownloadmanager.org - free, no adverts and good.

hello chaps..

anyone using firefox..i'd reccommend the extension called "flashgot"...

if you've got an accelerator (i've got GetRight), just right click the link, flashgot link, and it'll download it using your accelerator for you..very simple.

you can even download all of the links on a page at once if you really want to.

Sorry for this, but...

[pedant]You can not over utilise a link. If you're getting max download speeds, then you can not accelerate it in anyway. For vids that come down at 4K/sec, this may well work, but not all FTP servers have download resume turned on, so this may not work, and may interfere with other legite downloads too.[/pedant]
