Hope Rear Rotor

Recommended Posts

Was on the back wheel yesterday about to jump a gap when my back wheel

jammed up, i looked back to see my rear rotor had a piece missing out of it

& was all bent up. The rotor has never taken a bang & the wheel is true etc.

Has anyone had a similar problem etc? I took it to my LBS & he said to mail

Hope & explain what has happened with a picture. Will try & load pic later if

i get chance. :(

In between the two broken bits on the rotor, there's a mark that looks like you've hit it on something. Are you sure you didn't? I would say though that it seems unlikely that a small mark like that could cause it to fold in two places. Hopefully you'll get a new one from Hope (Y)

EDIT: Never mind - That mark looks like it's on the inside of the rotor, so probably not gonna be a rock :P

were you running the disk so the splines were pointing forwards?

it makes quite a bit of difference on where the stresses go to (difference between allocated stress points instead of all over the disk)

as said before, it looks like it snapped, and after some more riding its just completely given up and dicintegrated.

send it off to hope and thell send you a spanking new one, there pretty proud of thier parts and sort them out if thier broken.

Adam at TartyBikes has a prototype 180mm Monotrial rotor on test on the rear of his Kot, to overcome some problems people have been having, its much meatier, has more arms which are wider. There are less sharp edges to reduce stress. The actual braking area is bigger too, so performance is improved!

You can see a 200mm version on the Tartybikes stand at Cycology, or can test the one out for yourself on Adam's Kot which he'll be taking with him.

thats the first thing that came into my head! But surely with trials, depending on the trick / move, the stress of the back brake can easily go either way around the wheel. if you get what i mean!? :S So this problem will always eventually happen.
