Siders77
You need to be able to open your CD drive to re-install XP. Try going into Windows Explorer and ejecting the drive from there.

Jaffacakes
Just give it a good old technical kick on the disk drive. It always works to mend things, mobiles, PS2's printers etc

deanie-b
Tryed removing the disc drive? If so, then try (gently) opening it with an electrical screwdriver (super thin bladed one)Then reinstall XP
Siders77
Ohhh yeah. I forgot about that, There should be a little hole in the front of your drive. Poke a paper clip in there and it'll open the drive. Edited February 9, 2006 by Siders77
Hoot
Theres either a tiny whole that siders mensioned, poke a paper clip in there, or there might be a groove to poke a skrewdriver in, if you open it while the computer is off, then turn it on while the tray is still out, if the computer doesnt close the drive, you know the drive is fooked, of so, it's a virus or somthing. Tomm
It's probably a virus. Try ejecting the drive just as you switch the PC on. If there isn't enough time before it starts loading Windows, press del to enter the bios (or even just pause on your keyboard sometimes works) to give you some more time. If it works there then it's a Windows problem (I.e. a virus).
Walleee
Any noise from the motor? If so the elastic pulley is bust.
