Ash-Kennard
just a few minutes ago i was ripping the leeson to peice so i can use the control which should arrive tomorrow. then i got to the rear wheel and realised i needed a smaller cog on there as i now have the mini middleburn bash. so i undo the lock ring, try to pull the cog off and the whole cassette piece pops off, with pawls and springs flying. i have found all the pawls and springs and have put them back in the hub and just shoved it back on, the hub seems to still be working but will it break as im riding? i didn't lube it or anything as it look reasonably moist as it is but the pawlsand springs had picked up bits of dust and shit, but not too bad.so my questions are:1.should my hub just fall apart like that?2.will the dust and shit make the hub skip/slip?3.will the hub be alright now?4.will i need a new chain if i am using 2 new cogs? Dr. Nick Riviera
hub will be fine , i explode mine like that regularly , yes its meant to happen , be carefull. just keep it clean and a new chain would be wise
street trials rider
i'd take it back apart and make sure you clean all that dust and crap out of the ratchet system.but apart from that your fine, loads of people end up pulling the freehub off when they try to remove a "dug-in" cassette sprocket hope freehubs probs the easiest freehub to remove (not sure what the Pro2 freehubs are like though, probs same style)
Ash-Kennard
ok, thanks for the replies, any idea what i can clean them with or is water enough?
ogre
You might wana lube em up, don't use anything from a can though (wd40 etc) cause they dry up and rape the bits, use some 3 in 1 oil etc... It's alwayd good to lube parts up good
street trials rider
WD40 or GT85 all the parts to get all the dirt out/off, then a little smear of grease will be more than enough to keep the pawls running smooth
ramps
You don't need to worry about the lube too much, a lot of my mates and myself run hardly any, gives a more posative feel when it engages, your better off cleaning the shite off the pawls and ratchet system though, i have been cleaning the internals of my hope and found pieces of grind and such! This may or may not cause it to skip but its better to be safe than sorry. The new chain would be a good idea aswell. Krisboats
Pretty much the same as everyone else has said, just pop it back off and spray some wd40 onto a rag or old toothbrush if you've got one and clean the inside. I then wiped all the excess wd40 out with a dry rag and then put a little bit of grease on the end of my finger and ran it round the ratchet anticlockwise. so not much got stuck in the little ridges. When you're putting it back together make sure you turn it anti-clockwise so the pawls don't tear the little seal as it goes back in.should be fine then. aaron_trials _247
strange i know but when i do my hope hubs... i use a little bit of 2-stroke oil (any oil will probably do) and a smidge of grease mixed together and i stretch the springs just slightly to give it a bi tmore bight..after this the hub doesnt need serving for abot 3 months and sounds like a beast forever...when i say service after 3 months i mean just a clean and re lube not back off to hope etc...DAN
