Greetings
Well, I've seen both done on videos, but I can't figure out which method is easier to start with. A bunnyhop gives more momentum when lifting the bike up, but a pedalup seems to be a more accurate tool. Any advice?
Joe_Elding
I'm just learning at the moment and i've found a pedal kick to be better, when i was bunnyhopping into it i never had enough accuracy with my front wheel and often ended up hitting it on the top of the object and going over the bars Also you can't generate any speed from a bunnyhop so have to go faster than you would with a pedal kick.Saying all that I haven't landed a hook my self yet... Ash-Kennard
i bunnyhop because its far easier (supershort bike) but on thursday im on a long control and im not too sure that it will easier to bunnyhop so i think that just you should do what will feels easier for the bike/kind of style you have
Hobnobs
I bunnyhop, its easier. I can do pedal hoppy ones, but its just harder as you are going slower. Saying that, i think i may go slightly too fast, and use my momentum rather than technique.
Ali C
bunnyhopping is probably easier if you have a short bike, pedaling if you have a long one.personally I recken pedaling is best, how often at comps you you have a nice strech of flat ground to gather speed?pedaling you can go uphil, short runup, bumpy runup...the lot! wilky_mod_legend2
I have found out that pedaling is better, well for me anyways, i have found this because iam further foward on my bike. And i find bunny hops are harder because iam to far back.CheersWilky
Hobnobs
Perhaps being further back is a good thing though, as you can throw yourself forwards and upwards?
wilky_mod_legend2
Possibly but i find it throws me off.
matthewholdsworth
i do both depending on the length of run up and size of the object i want to hook.keep trying both, bunnyhopping gives u more momentum to make the second "jump" up to the top of the object i suppose. rich4130
Im scared that some of you are 14 or so and can hook haha.I spent like a whole day with a 50" loading bay, bunnyhopping into them and got 2 to bash hahah.

SQuiT-man
Its my personal belief that you can go far heigher bunnyhopping into a hook, as I personally find I can get much more height with a bunnyhop over a pedal-up, and can go at a much faster speed into it.But I'm sure others will disagree. loffa
Im scared that some of you are 14 or so and can hook haha.Don't be scared, I'm 15 lol.Anyway, when I was learning them on my BT, I found that the hardest part of hooking is keeping your chocolate foot/pedal from hitting the wall. And I also found a 'cheat' that helps you avoid hitting it with the pedal while you're still learning the tehnique itself. Assuming(sp?) you're doing them to pallets, I put the upper pallet(the one that's on the top ) few inches further back then the others were, creating a 'step' which helps to clear your pedal and also makes it easyier to get up, because you can use the same 'step' with your rear wheel. The 'step' has to be just big enough to clear your foot, but not too big to get your front wheel stuck behind the edge. And if you get the basic skill with the 'step' you can just remove it. But now that I'm on a high BB Czar I can't really see any issues with pedal clearance.Other than that, just the things you have probably heard before - Go as fast as you can, try to bunnyhop/pedalup into the wall as if you were doing a gap into the wall, rather then trying to jump 'up'. And you have to jump much lower then you probably guess at the first, the front wheel just has to make it to the edge.Happy hooking(or killing your fork )Oh, and I forgot to mention: WEIGHT FORWARD!!! sammerz
I'm in the mids of learning and i find it hard, but the length of the bike shouldn't matter because CLS does huge bunny hops on his Zoo!Sam
loffa
But he rides a 20", that's a bit different. You can't bunnyhop a long 26" bike.. well you can, but it's hard to get the front wheel up and pedalupping is much easyier. Though I'm sure that CLS could bunnyhop a 1100wb stock bike too. It's just a matter of practice I guess.
Krisboats
I love bunnyhopping but i do need a bigger bike... After going into supercycles the other day and having a go on the limey i might be going for one of those. I still reckon i'll be able to bunnyhop it because it'll be the right sized bike for me, seeing as i'm 6'5".It did feel really nice though I've had a little go at hooks with my mate but never manged one, got reall close though. but i was thinking does anybody reckon it'd be possible to do a front tap into a hook if they changed the techniques a little bit? Imagine how high you could go with that!
Ash-Kennard
1. f**k me 6.5 is huge !!! 2.didn't vincent hermance make a few up an 8ft wall. im on about the tap to hook, it was something stupid like that
