Heatsink Cnc Backings

I am looking at getting a set of the heatsink hs33 cnc backings with some of the coust rubber in them, but what i was wondering is when this runs out what pad re-fills are available. I know a lot of people are now into making their own pads and I wanted to know whether it's possible to get more pad compound of say the coust rubber or maybe plazmatic rubber if anybody has any of that.

I would just like a list really of all the different pad materials that would be available to use, i'm sure i'm not the only one who would like to know.

cheers

Yeh i've made my own backing's and i'd like to source some compound only. Obviously you boys that are making your own pads get the rubber from somewhere. I was told roller blade wheels rubber would work, but a set of pads would be cheaper than a set of them no doubt.......

I don't really fancy using roller blade wheels to be honest with you, i don't know whether they'd be as good and i don't think i'd have the same confidence in them for some reason.

EDIT: Just a thought, is it possible to buy blocks of the rubber still from somewhere, i know there was some red rimjam material that was going about the forum. Do blocks of the coust pad exist?

Or would it be possible to pull the pads out of a standard magura pad and pack them with something to make them fit properly in the cnc backings? A set of zoo pads in cnc backings would be mightily cool. I think that was a bit of a clever idea by mr steve, making them slightly bigger so we can't just use rubber from other pads, that is of course if it was intentional... he might not have realised.

Could just get Heatsink to refill it with other compound??

That might be a much more expensive way of doing it though, as i'd have to pay for the cost of the pads each time. That would make it just as expensive as buying the pads seperately all the time instead of using the cheaper refills.

How are they bigger? Longer, wider? I dont have the Heatsink backings, mine are far older. They can be used with any rubber, from a standard pad. I think its the same with Heatsinks??

I just press it in with some glue and leave it unde rpressure for a while, not caring about the holes and the cut out bit in the middle of pads that have been in powerpad or similar plastic backings. Works well.

I don't know how they are bigger, it just says on the heatsink site that the refill pads fit the hs33 cnc backings but can be made to fit the standard plastic hs33 backings if your proficient enough with a stanley knife. So i'm guessing you have to cut some material away to get it to fit, so the cnc backings will be bigger.

Just to clarify, it's not the roller blade wheel you use, you cut the rubber off andmake it into a pad, but i don't really know how it work work with them being round and all that. I havn't bothered trying it so that indicates how good of an idea i think it is.....

Blocks of pad material are exactley what im looking for, wanting to buy in bulk here people.... Obviously those who are making pads are getting access to copious amount of this rubber from somewhere.

The CNC backings are differant to the powerpad backing's in that inside the powerpad backing there are two 'pins' sticking up, the CNC backing only has a single square block protruding, you can see it on the heatsink website with the backings that are empty. Im not 100% sure of the dimensions of the heatsink backings, but I would assume that they are most probobly the same size area for inserting pads, the only differance being the pins and the block. The pictures on the website with the backing in magura's look pretty much the same as the powerpad backings......

I got what you meant, i didn't think that you meant attach a whole wheel to my magura with the bearings attached to it and everything. I'm 18 not 12 :(

I've e-mailed mr steve about the sizes and whether or not i can use normal pad material, so we will have to wait to find out for sure. I hope you are right about it only being little 'pins' that need holes making in the rubber.

cheers for the help everyone. :D

Just to clear this up, about the size of the CNCed backing recess.

They are designed to allow all magura pads to fit into them. It's all about giving riders the opportunity to 100% customise their brake set up. Koxx, Zoo, Coust, Plazmatic, Heatsink Red, make your own etc etc. The latest Heatsink Vees have had the recess size reduced compared to the previous ones. So these also fit all magura pads snugger than ever.

It's a little known fact that the plastic backings branded "Magura" are 1mm shorter than the ones branded "Powerpad". The CNCed backing recess gives a snug fit with the smallest pads (Magura and Plazmatic) whilst the longer pads like Koxx just need about 1mm trimmed off them to fit into the CNCed backings reassuringly tightly.

Because the fit is nice and snug (if you had this snug a fit for plastic backings, they would bow), you don't need much if any glue at all. I drop a spot of superglue in each end just for peace of mind. Any supermarket brand will be sufficient.

It also says that the refill material can be fitted to a standard magura backing if your profficient with a stanley knife, which implies its a different size.. so i thought i'd ask about it. Is that alright with you? (N) I think it is you who has not read properly child! I mean, if your so smart and read everything so well howcome you didn't realise that my original post was asking about what pad comounds are available, like rim jam material, or plazmatic material, or some of the coust material. i didn't originally ask whether or not they fitted, but whether blocks of the material are avaialable to buy seperately. The question of whether or not normal pads fit was a side question that occured when the topic went slightly away from my original question, which is just here in case you missed it.

I am looking at getting a set of the heatsink hs33 cnc backings with some of the coust rubber in them, but what i was wondering is when this runs out what pad re-fills are available. Sorry for trying to make sure i'm completely happy with something before i spend £32 on it.

Cheers for the help steve, that cleared it all up for me. I think i will be having a set of those then... I'll order them in a minute. Cheers to evryone else who helped as well, it was muchly appreciated! :D
