Simon
"boombox". For starters, it depends what you want the headunit to do, and what you want it to run. If you get a "boombox" (i think you mean sub ) then you will, in 9 out of 10 cases want an amp to power it. Then you have to decide if you want a 1, 2, 4 or multi channel amp, then what RMS you wan't it to output, or what RMS you want the sub to be able to handle. Then also consider 6x9's, components and tweeters. Not simple. You can try and run a sub of your headunit, but don't expect it to sound any good. Have a flick through these as well;http://www.caraudiodirect.comhttp://www.caraudiosecurity.com
Guest
While Sub's and all are cool and fancy, for most people, a decent set of component speaker's will do the job if you get one's with a good enough frequency response.Unless your an audiophile, or need the vibrations for something else, i'd suggest maybe even getting some 6x9's. Yes they are probobly THE most common 'Modification' made to every boy racer's car, but like I said, unless your really spending ALOT of time in the car(parks) your not going to notice much of a differance, expecially considering your budget. There is no point in buying budget sub's. Their boxes are usually not made to fit the speaker, so you might be buying a great speaker, but it'll sound shit in on've them generic boxes..... Street Lee
If you've got a fairly modern car, spend all the money on a H/U and run it through standard speakers, you'll get far better clarity. Cheap sub's are false economy because they sound shit and you look a twat when you're sat at the lights banging loose, distorted bass out, not a good look. Like jake said, if you wanna go budget, spend £50 on a half decent set of 6x9's and stick them in the parcel shelf (level...) and you'll be a lot better off than buying a shit sub/box/amp. Just to put into perspective the cost of decent gear, my component (door) speakers cost nearly twice what you want to pay for a H/U and sub, £385 for two mids, two tweeters and 2 crossovers.Edit: If you've got an amp already, run the 6x9's off it...
