CurtisRider
with regards to ultimate internals, yes the bit of metal that the spring tension bolt sits against is a tad wank, ive broken a few however, its easily fixed i managed to use the internals of a deore v brake and get them to fit (5 min job and not a bodge like it sounds), had no troubles since that means i now have a steel one, instead of alloy and it hasnt broken, and my brake certainly doesnt feel any worse for it

Matt_Tupman
and im goign to be using sram levers fornt and rear as going to use avid sd7 on front but thats a whole different story,Really bad idea mate you might aswell run a Maggy on 50% air if your going to run these levers, sponge city!Get the Avids or Shimano's
CurtisRider
hes right, i had sram 9s, they were awful, even deore levers would provide a better level of stiffness and comfort and they are like 10quid a pair!as for lx arm being stiffer-are the new ones normal now? cos my old 1s were parallel push? mtbjosh
i am now a full supporter of Vbrakes, i converted from a magura, im running XT arms,BBB pads on a grind, and avid speeddial 7 lever with hardly pull bak at all and theres no struggle to keep it locked up any more . some people prefer maggies because they retract quicker etc but thats just a force working against you. if you know how to set one up and can be bothered to, its well worth the hassel, at first it was ok then as you get used to them they are great. go for it! Ali C
that setup was deore lever, nokon cable and avid ultimate calipers and a range of pads to try (those were koxx yellows)my new setup is gonna be avid mag lever, linear slic cable and ultimate calipers. dunno what pads to use though, might pop my koxx greens or coust on.and yes, its a bonz adaptor
Brisa
Ali, my vee brake loved most pads apart from Koxx greens but my magura loved them. Strange!Jake, I have a vee on my control and I plan on digging it out this weekend for the first time in ages to 'attempt to ride' so you can have a bash on it and see what you think.I only changed over due to the maintainence factor. If i clip my cable it doesn't piss on my leg
Ali C
I tried a range of pads on my vee and koxx greens were by far the best
Brisa
May be my 42mm koxx rim not liking the harder pads
Jules
I use to run a vee on the back, it was shimano dx callipers, and an sd7 lever. I had a smoth rim, some avid rim wrangler pads and i used tar. It was quite a good brake, but my mate sold me a hs33 and i have used that ever since I run a vee on the front at the moment, i love it and much prefer it to my mates magura. Jez
i am now a full supporter of Vbrakes, i converted from a magura, im running XT arms,BBB pads on a grind, and avid speeddial 7 lever with hardly pull bak at all and theres no struggle to keep it locked up any more . some people prefer maggies because they retract quicker etc but thats just a force working against you. if you know how to set one up and can be bothered to, its well worth the hassel, at first it was ok then as you get used to them they are great. go for it!So I'm not the only one who found that BBB pads are actually quite decent Used to run a LX canti (yes, PP)/DX Lever system with BBB's and Clark cables I think, some of the best V's I ever had (although that was on a stock). I've got Avid SD7/SD7's on at the moment on my mod, and I'm fighting with them a bit to get something useable, but I've got a feeling it's the pads that are letting me down. So much so I'm considering putting the cheapass LED-in-the-pad-that-lights-up-when-brake-is-pulled things (don't ask!) off my MTB on instead (they work suprisingly well). And the lesson of all this is? Don't underestimate cheap pads on a smooth rim. They may surprise you. Even if they DO look thoroughly crap because they light up when braking (or not after a few rides).
