Computer Speakers!

If your getting surround you'lll need to make sure your sound card has enough outputs on it.

A bog standard pc will most likely only have one audio output, which won't be enough.

For instance if you want a 5.1 speaker set up, you'll need at least a 5.1 soundcard.

I used to endeavor to have a cracking audio setup on my PC, now I just don't see the point because my seperate's system will surpass anything i've ever heard. Any videos im watching are going to be compressed so the audio doesnt need to be able to go as low as with say a DVD and if I want to listen to music ill throw on a CD.....

Startig up windows with surround sound can be interesting (Y)

This would be the sorta thing which might well do the job well, I know several people including my self who have used/use this make. the subs are generally very good bass etc.

good value really too

no point in surround, odds of setting it up with speaker cables all over the place is low really, as it looks gash etc.

2.1 is good enough

I have the 5.1 versions of them that i got off ebay for about £80 they are great and plenty of base. And being 500w (the 3.1's are 300ish) they are great for annoying my housemates :) no distortion even at max volume.

Anything that works for pc should work fine on a mac pending its soundcard.

If the mac has front/rear/sub outputs or optical/coaxal then you should be good for a 5.1 setup

If it only has front/mic/linein then your stuck with 2.1
