Mark W
I passed my driving test earlier in January, and I have no car.I want to drive.I'm gonna do pass-plus 'cos it'll reduce my insurance (hopefully ) and stuff, but also just so's I get to drive again. Powys are paying £75 of the cost, and I pay the other £50. Not too bad Anyways, I tried going and searching the intermaweb for Pass-Plus info, but if I'd cupped my hands, crapped in them, then flung that at the screen it would've contained more useful info.Anyone here done it? Any info would be appreciated .kraM
nmt_oli
Its a short course, 3-6 hours, assesed by intructor during the course who just gives you a certificate.I don't believe you need to apply anywhere, just contact a local instrctor and hel fit you in for a slot. The course covers motorwa driving, night driving, city driving ect, so may not be able to be done in one go (usually 2 sessions). The instructor will know more about payment methods.
Mark W
Cool. I've already sorted out the dorrah and stuff, so payment's good, and he's sorting the date. It was more just about whether it's like a long continuous driving lesson, or whether it's like drive, stop for a bit, drive, stop for a bit - or is that instructor-dependent?Already done night driving, so that's one off the list I guess
flipkickbs
I've done pass plus, tis defiantly worth it, don't get that awkward first time on the motorway feeling and you get a feel for what real driving is like. I did it with the AA as i used them for lessons too. Just phone anywhere that does lessons and enquire about pass plus, most instructors are qualified to do pass plus training so it shouldn't be too hard finding one Ian Edit: They take you on proper sketchy country roads just wide enough to get the car through and they hope for a meeting situation (b***ards!) so you have to reverse the car for days on end. There is a lot of stopping to explain theory, like the all weather section obviously cant be in all weather unless the instructor is god/ weather controller styleee person. So they just go over precautions to take in icy weather and all that crap. Its weird having no instruction whatsoever bar directions, and you can get a bit of cheeky speeding in aswell without him saying anything But yea, defiantly worth it, i'm sure after you've done it at least a bit of it will be applied to your driving in the future. TomN
My instructor says it's pointless doing Pass-Plus he said it's just for the first year? and you might aswell look on the interent for cheaper insurance and use however much the Pass-Plus cost. Caleb
so pass plus only gets you discount off your insuarance for the first year of your driving or you can only take it within your first year of driving?pretty sure norwhich union knock off 50% and even give you the fees back but they have very high quotes to start with . . Mark W
I thought it was that it gave you a year-long period where it could reduce your insurance, if you got the insurance in that time frame? 'cos they've got grants for people up to 25 to do it.Thanks for the replies. Mid Wales is all about the country roads, so I'm used to that... trials_pimp
Pass Plus is very usefullIt consists of 6 elemnts of driving.Driving for a long period of timeDriving on a motorwayDriving in the darkDriving in the rainand the last 2 I can never rememberYou can do Pass Plus upto 2 years after passing your test.Speak to your old driving instrucor. It should last about 4-6 hours, and will cost in lesson fees respectivly. My dirinv instructor done mine as a 2 hour lesson, as I had already done 5 out of 6 of the items in his lessons. So He just wanted to see me on a motorway (I had been driving for a year before I had done it, and travel all ove the country, so was easy)Speak you your instructors, they may do something similar. As for insurence, it gave me 70% off the 1st time I insured with pass plus (With CIS)It still comes in handy now, and ive been driving for almost 4 years
Mark W
Awesome. Nearest motorway to me is the M4, and that's 2 hours away. Get to trundle down to Cardiff for the day...

inzane_2
Dont bother with pass plus! go straight for advanced driving!you get a 10% reduction on tests and insurance will drop loads more. http://www.iam.org.uk/Advancedtest/index.phpWhy not consider this one?I never did my pass plus, just did advanced driving, much more worth while. Mark W
Well, I don't have a car so that rules that out, and my Dad used to teach the police advanced driving so he's going to teach me stuff too. I know that won't get me 10% off insurance or whatever, but it'll be good experience, and I won't get anally raped monetarily for the pleasure...
