wayneone
Pads should hit the rim square and flat(all the pad touches rim at same time)Pads should be 2mm away from rim(or more if you have a buckle)The resin ring(plastic washer) should be set properlyDont over tighten the boltsUse after market pads(search for which ones are best!)If using old evo mounts the elbows should be touching the frame or fork to give it a bit more "stiffness"Use a booster(again search for best one)Make sure the bleed it good, Best way to tell is to take your wheel out, pull the lever while looking at the pads, if the pads move as soon as you move the lever then its fine, However, if the pads move say after you have pulled the lever 10-20mm then you need to bleedPossibly grind your rimsSet your lever up so you only use 1 fingerDont go use your tpa to get better power/lockUse fresh resin rings creased ones are never any goodUse a braided hose^^^ correct set up for resin ring. Alun Goch
I had trouble setting up mine for a while aswell, but found a fairly easy way is....Firstly align your wheel and chain tension. It is pointless to get the brake set perfect if the wheel will be moved.Leave the brake on one side tightened for now, roughly set up.Loosen the brake mounts so that you can adjust the position of the brake with your fingers, but have it tight enough so as not to move about on its own.Look at the gap between the pad and rim, and set the desired distance, push the brake in to get closer, squeeze the lever to get further.Once you're happy with the distance, slide the mounts up and down, and also rotate the brake, aswell as setting the angle of the pad. Basically get the pad perfectly alligned with the rim, which may take a little while. Pull the lever till the pads touch the rim to see how you're doing. It may also help to have the pad touching while you're adjusting the pad. When you're happy, tighten up the mounts, and do the same to the other side. And as mentioned before get a decent booster and set of pads. It's also important to keep your pads and rim clean, pads with sandpaper, smooth rims with washing up pads (green ones0 is what I found to work.Stick to this and they should be sweet Alun
pike64421
well the way i set mine up and they work like a dream 6 easy steps 1. loosen bottom brake bolts 2. adjust lever adjuster 3/4 they way out 3. slip flexible friend (credit card) between the pads and the rim 4. move the caliper in so it holds the card in place 5. then just tighten up the bottom bolts 6. remove the card from the rim and take for a test ride
ben_travis
for starters ignore the 2mm thing never ever set the brake up like that it will seriously be too little pull to be comfortable (unless you have massive hands). When my brake works properly, the lever pulls about half the amount between the normal setting and the handlebar this way it means you have more grip on your bars when your brake is on.thats what i would say anyway. that 2mm thing is stupid
Euro Braker
I found it by trial and error. Try it one way and if it sucks adjust it again. It does help if your pads are square to the rim and then adjust them in/out to how you want the lever to feel.
hulltrialser
what i do is set the master side a few mm further away than the slave i also have the slave one hitting absolutely spot on(square to the rim) and the master not awsome but close enough to be set up the best but mre aless square to the rim.Ben Edited February 3, 2006 by hulltrialser
Danny Swindlehurst
get 2 2p coins and set them up so they r inbettween the rim and the pads the titen you 4 bolt mounts up
Joe_Elding
I get a thin bit of card and put it inbetween the pads and rim, then push the pads against it. I then use the tpa to move the pads in a bit more..
ogre
Little thing I've started doing is to remover the tyre, put the rim+hub etc back in without the tyre, then setup the magies like that(i use permanent marker to doodle on the chain tentioners where i i need them tightened to) then slip out the rim, tyre it up and pop it back in then ride slowly into the sunset and fall off... cvtrial
A good discbrake in front, and HS33 in rear with heatsink pads, and a good grind. Nothing beats it!!!
