When Do You Make The Transition

Its funny cos i watch videos of people doing good stuff and then suddenly they seem to just one day wake up and go for massive up to massive down to massive gap with ease, is it just ive missed the development or do people really build up until they suddenly explode with skill. can anyone prove or disprove? has your mate made the transition? or have you?

well i completely understand what you are saying but think about the amount of people that also never become "amazing" . I put it all down to a little fing called talent along with lots of practise, some people have just have it and some dont take tunni, cls, tra etc they all have talent for riding but also put in hours and hours of practise a week there is no way of just waking up and becomeing good some people were litturaly born to ride. Talent + Practise = Success ( amazing rider )

"confidence . . . Confidence is everything man". sorry but thats a quote from a downhill racing film and i think it is dead right. you can build up skill even if you dont have talent it just takes sooooo much more practice but even cls and tunni had the skills one day but they didnt have the confidence. it may come when you settle into you bike fully or after youve tried some big things but i think you make the step up with an explosion of confidence! it really is everything in this sport!

cheers

The thing is is that people only show their best riding, so you won't see the hours of practising and not making lines in a vid, you just see the finished thing. More and more people are making videos of all sorts of riding now so you can see rider's progression. The FTC series of vids (Check out ObservedTrials.net's video section to find them) seems to demonstrate their improvement, and it's the same if you just look at older videos of riders (for example, CLS. If you check out the thread about his old vids in Sites, Vids & Pics you can see his style and riding develop). So yeah, it's just practise really. You don't get anywhere without putting effort in.

From what i see in trials at the moment, todays amazing is tomorrows average. You just need to keep up with what is viewed as 'the best' riders. I don't think there is really a transition from being good to amazing because a good sidehop: 45", amazing:50", not a lot of difference really.

Personally i wouldn't even think of that, just ride to the best of your ability and if people view you as amazing then i guess thats an added bonus!

totally agree with mark - i know if i watch our first vid 'damnation' and then watch 'damnation 6' its like i can really see the improvement in mine (and my mates riding) - not saying we are amazing or nowt but you can see the improvement :) it is just practise really and then one day things will click into place and its ace!!
