BONGO
i don't think there is anyone in the shadows waiting. all/most of the people listed are pretty quiet lads. Its no bad thing, but as far as one of the main personalities of the sport goes, you can't be quiet. You gotta 'be' a personality. Its the same in most sports. The personalities of the sport often don#t represent the full potential of the sport, but they do carry the sport with their attitude and personality. The 'best' in sports often aren't the personalities of the sport. Look at F1. Mansell was the best, but was no way an F1 personality. He was more boring than the keyboard i'm typing on. The personalities of his time were lower down in the field, but had livelier attitudes, they played to fans, had laughs and connected with people in a different way.Its rare to change how you are i think, But it can happen. Some of you are too young to remember, but i remember when gary lineker just started TV after football, and he was as boring as shit. He made it work and he is now massively successful in TV.Trials needs someone or several people who do have a lot of skill, but also outgoing lovebale personalities that can possibly even outshine the riding skills. They need to carry the sport on TV, interviews, video's etc. The first thing i think about when i think of the mart/ins is entertaining. Before riding even. There are a million good riders, but only a select few that can make audiences who don't know them persoanlly, laugh at their words and antics.john
zoo
Personally i think danny foster is gonna be the next "famous" trials rider, especially as the years go on and new frames come out that can take more of a beating than they can now,i can see him doing some 15 foot drop off a wall lol or Craig le scoot or tunni, but i think they are pretty famous by now lol.zoo x x x
Tony Harrison
The first thing i think about when i think of the mart/ins is entertaining. Before riding even. The Martins entertanied. John, you were the only hope, but you've gone to a better place!!!I have no idea who Danny Foster is, besides which, Ashton dropped that far in 1998, and it was in the 10th anniversary MBUk issue and on Sprung 2. Ok, it was onto sand, but he did on a modified XC bike off rocks.

Trials Dave
james porter in my opinion. dont know why but i just have a feeling he will. he seems to be good for a laugh
BONGO
i'd go as far as to say that in my view, to represent a sport is 60% your views/attitude/personality and 40% your actual skill within the sport. Thats not to say your skill is less, but that alongside your skill at the sport (which obviously does need to be well respected and at a high level), your personality needs to be almost more, as you would be the image of the sport to outsiders. The best rider in the world has no bearing in my eyes to become a representing personality. Ben savage, amazing rider, His riding got him where he is, not his personality. Not bad mouthing, just getting my point over.john
Revell-Bikes
getting a lot of good opinons about varoius riders, seeing about things aside their riding abilities, broading the views on fame, reputations, personalities and so on.. sorry for those that i havent heard of james porter, who is he?? think he's the ginger guy ( or matt staples?) first heard of porter was in an article about him in MBUK (hip hop page) last month!keep it up any foreign riders you all have a opinon about. most of this thread is focused on british riders, why not add other riders like Hermance, Cousteilleurs?, the next step in this thread perhaps?, see what you all thinkPat

I know they're good guys, I've heard from Wayne that Vinny is a top chap, but it just isn't the same...

T-Limburn
cough http://www.trialnoir.com/Resources/tn%203.mov - ashton can still hold his own no i know that they're still good, but not compared to some other riders around nowadays who are better, ie fletch, cls, porter... Mark W
He's doing different stuff though. He pioneered most of the riding that the UK scene is doing, AND he's still coming up with new stuff. That's what's great about him, really. Still coming up with new stuff after over a decade of riding trials, not just "tap gap drop" stuff. S'all good.
nafan
CLS, Tunni, Porter, and Wheeler are great, I think, to be honest, there are already new well known trials personalities...Always cool to watch the old school guys every once in a while though... Got the tricks and stunts dvd a little while ago...Nathan
Waynio
mark were you on about ashton in your post? as i totally agree, its not about a huge tap up or a massive sidehop and thats what some/most people are known for on here a bit like this"oh wow did you see that guy on a chinatown bike tap 66"!!!" oh my god that was amazing. one trick wonders wont get any where near what the likes of ashton and hawzee has done for the sport. i was down porthcawl last week with porter and john S, Gavin B and another lad and hawzee and ashton, and just to see HOW different they ride to any "trials" rider nower days is MEGA hot. its just like were all clones and boring........ (well not literally like that but its going to take SOMEONE or a couple of people to do something different for them to be noticed like ashton and hawzee)Waynio........................ chris walker i love you so much. just wait till this party tomoz night i will make you feel special and wanted and lots of loving to be done
Feeley!
Wayne all the way hes a sorted guy and rides like a gorrila hard tough and aggresive at times but he enjoys what hes doing, hes got the personality to be like ashton and hawyes but also his riding is like WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW.Also from what i have seen from Porter too hes a fantastic rider and seems a right old giggle so overall those two shud be the next ashton and hawyes
THE trials commentator
i dont think cls or butler will be.i dont know why,but i could only see a few riders who have the certain 'qualities' to achieve said status.and theyre just average street riders who aint even sponsored, apart from porter.he's always a right laugh. somehow though i dont see it ever happening, its the same as music, you wont get another 'motley crue' or a band that has their lifestyle, same as there wont be any more martins,it arrived,it achieved,it'll never come along again.which will only make them grow bigger in the trials world,if that's at all possible?carl

flange
For a start it needs to be someone who rides a 'proper bike' Seriously, I don't think a 20 inch rider will ever replace the Martins, mainly because Joe public cannot associate with them. After all, bike companies like Crack n fail, Giant and Mongoose are more concerned about selling the public low end bikes in big numbers, rather than niche market models to a smaller number of specialist riders. Whoever takes the mantle will need to represent cycling as a whole, ride a bike that Mr Average can associate with and get his/her face in as many mags and TV shows as possible. For the majority of their careers, both of them have ridden 'normal' looking bikes, unlike now with long, silver frames with no seat and the like, most trials bikes look nothing like a normal mountain bikeIMO whoever does it needs to get in with the magazine and TV people and also be synonomous with a big bike brand that can provide funding to get them into the limelight. A good example is Gee Atherton, Giant and the result being a spot on Top Gear
