Guest
Ok so i've established that +30mm etc indicates a bottom bracket rise, but where is the datum for the measurement +30? Centre of the rear axle?

Centre of the rear axle?I think it is if you were to draw a line between the two axles, the rise vertically above that line to the centre of the BB. Guest
Hmm, so the figures all these companies are coming out with are useless without a fork length at least for referance. The thing is, my bike seems to have a bottom bracket rise by what your saying, maybe it does, but I thought this was a fairly recent development...... dave85
Vinco's have been around ages with really high BB's, the DBR tibo was +something, i know the planet x tibo was +20, the old megamo radicals were +30, its not such a new idea really. As far as I am aware, all mods have BB rise. It's just a new development in the world of 26 inch wheels. Well, not exactly new, but it's only recently that bike companies have went a bit mental with the designs.

Interesting to know about the megamo and such, wouldn't have thought such an old school bike had that sort of geometry, having said that, i've only started thinking about geometry and stuff. medwaytrials
The higher the bottom bracket is, the more virtical the chainstay is when your on the back wheel so it makes it easier on the back wheel.
dave85
A mod pretty much has to have bb rise, it would be a bit of a dog to ride with a level bb, the ground clearance would be shocking too.
