gofasterpinch
what you want is a mk2 polo hatchback, i got one for £25 last year off ebay and it never let me down and if you fold rear seats down you can get a few bikes in http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1988-Volkswagen-Polo...1QQcmdZViewItemhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1990-VOLKSWAGEN-POLO...1QQcmdZViewItemyou could also find a mk3 (1991-1994) for a little more money
Jaffacakes
Fiat panda suck so much .If you are looking for a really cheap car you could consider a oldish van, I saw one in my local garage for £700 and that is from a skanky garage so if you bought privately would be about half that. A few of my mates who have been driving for about a year have bought decent rover metros for about £20!
Dr Greenthumb
"decent" "rover" and "for 20 quid" in the same sentance doesn't make sense Just kidding. Yeah there are shite loads of decent cheap cars on ebay.Yeah the fiat panda is pretty awesome, it has a tow bar aswell. But at 999cc it makes you wodner what exactly it could tow And the trouble with a van for a first car is that they usually have fairly big engines so insurance would be high.Cheer for the suggestions keep 'em comingDan
Prawny Baby
i know u specifically said not to..... but if u want a decent car on the SERIOUS cheap..... you cant go wrong with an MG metro! not an austin one, as tehy were a bit skanky! but the mg was a gem!the mg's tend to go for between £60 and £150 depending on condition, £150 would probably see you a pretty good one!the engine being a mini engine is a gem, the mg engine had a better cam, bigger valves, and a higher CR, and made a whoping 73bhp from new..... they are pretty nippy really. handling is ok, cheap to run, and you can fit a few bikes in the back! also cheap to unsure!my dad picked up an 88 honda civic auto for £20 a few years back, did him a few months free driving no trouble.if your not bothered about something classy, an xr3i is quick, practical, and dirt cheap........as would be an average ish golf gti
Dr Greenthumb
yeah i have actually looked at the mg metro Trouble is with the golf gti and maybe the mg is insurance. As a first car they're going to rape me on insurance as it is. although my friend is insured onhis 1.6 focus at 700 quid. The gti golf is 1.8 isn't it?I just need something to get me and my bike around and something to just abuse everywhere as long as it lasts me around a year.Dan
wayneone
Might be different for you. But i cant get insured on any car older than 1996 the insureance is just too high, i put this down to the insureance company thinking more will go wrong with a old car and that a 17-19 year old lad will thrash it, where as you would keep better care of a new car.
