Synergy
or you could try more kitchen alternatives.syrup.honey.treacle.milk.wine.liquadized carrot. how much a difference does the oil make then?

Dr Greenthumb
water bleeds work awesome, except in the minus temperatures.
medwaytrials
water bleeds work awesome, except in the minus temperatures. If you mix anti freeze with the water it doesnt freeze thats what me and my mates have doen. In fact we havnt had a re bleed for ages. pike64421
no no by far the best is WD-40 that stuff is so smooth
Jonny Shoe
I am afraid you are wrong there mate the best stuff proven so far has been Citroen Hydraulic LHM oil. It is superb as I have it in my maggie at the moment. If you pop along to your nearest garage if they have it I think it is only about £5 for a litre which is a great price.Hope this helps
wayneone
Lad i was out with today had chocolate milk shake in his, it worked fantastic.
PaRtZ
I am afraid you are wrong there mate the best stuff proven so far has been Citroen Hydraulic LHM oil. Proven by who and what laboratory. I think You'll find that the vast majority of riders use nothing but water and maybe anti-freeze. Much snappier feel + response....I've also read on here a guy who had his brake bled (lovingly, by his mates) with urine
matt rushton
Bleed it with water it works better than oil because it is thinner also put some anti-freeze in or your brake will freeze in winter. hoped this helped

joshywa
the ultimate liquid i imagine would be petrol or parafin... thin as wd40 (wd40's made from parafin i belive) doesnt freeze like water and evaporates off rims if you spill anydowns are bleeeding it would cost about £5 and after 10min bleading it you be high as a god damm kite plus no one knows what it would do to the seals (petrols acidic i belive)either water or maggura oil i belive are the only two options now realy but if any one reading this wants to blead their brake with water get DE IONISED WATER its what you put in car batterys and is ph neutral so now poping seals thanks to chlorine and florhine levels in tap water destroying them
mat hudson
petrol wouldnt be pricey. its like 90p a litre tops.

Much snappier feel + response....I have spoken to a few people who have said the same thing including XC riders etc. Sorry I haven't tried water so I may find it is snappier as you say but I would also like to point out that over time water will gradually wreck the inners of your Magura unlike oil which won't. <PACE>
Water is very good but in winter it freezes up so thats one downfall but works great.
Jaffacakes
Water is amazing, I have had mine bled with it for about a month now.. I had a go on someones magura the other week who had theirs bled with maggie oil and it felt stiff, slow and unresponsive.... but I suppose it was a 05 . nmt_oli
LHM brake fluid as mentioned above is pretty much the same as magura blood, just a mineral oil, of similar thickness.I Personally use 2.5wt finishline shock oil, it is thinnner than magura blood (i believe magura blood is roughly 5wt) and HAS been proved to be better. magura service centre int eh US used to use 5wt finish line to blled brakes, as it was the closest they could get to magura blood for a while (for some strange reason), and they said it improved feel as it has more of a lubrcative effect. By usingthe thinner 2.5wt, you get a snapppuier lever feel that is also very consistent and smooth, with no worries about damaging the system or it freezing. I find it very nice to use. weebryan
I use water and anti freeze and also makes the bleeding process 100% air free if you bleed it under water a few times, ie. in a bucket or along that lines
MikeHayes
Personaly im not keen on water, i dont like the hard feel.I tend to use lhm citreon brake fluid from halfords, Its only about 5 pounds. However if you do insist on using water make sure you put anti freeze in and use de-ironised water,This way it wont freeze or rot the seals for a very long time cheers
Clawz114
hmm i just use water, works ok for me. just my advice is be careful with certain hydralic fluid as im sure most types strip paint, magura blood doesnt obviously, neither does water lol forgive me if i sound dumb i didnt pay much attention in science at school whats deionised water? and where can i get some and how much. forgive me if someones already said what where and how much i only scaned the topic Clawz Edited January 21, 2006 by Clawz114
