ben_travis
So i have been trying to get bigger with my taps recently, and have found that i now have a point accross my thigh that hurts anytime i try to tap.The problem is that my right thigh is catching my bar when i tap, obviously if i get the the position right and i make the tap it doesnt hurt, but its those where you tap wrong and only land in a hook position and it bangs my thigh uber bad.Now i have been trying to stay off the taps, but now it hurts when i hit the spot on my thigh when im sidehopping (when im kicking up the wall) Please note there was no time inbetween these times where the pain went away, this has been since last sunday. Im going snowboarding / to see gf in france on sunday, till thursday (with no bike) do you reckon the rest time will allow the pain to go away or do you have any other thoughts as to the problem.Cheers for any adviceBen
Rossi
God, I kno how you feel ben. Used to get this problem every time I did a tap. If you keep at it, your technique will get better and better. Cant remember the last time i twatted my thigh against my bars, but it used to render, caused bruises & crap... ouchies. If you're going for a big tap, and you hit the wall high (depending what technique you use) and dont succeed in doin the tap, the bars come flyin back at your leg (pain). If you'd have hit it lower, you'd have got up the b*****d wall and not hit ypour thigh. That what happened with me anyway lol. Its all down to how you hit the wall imo and how quickly u react wen u tap. Wen i bruised my thighs, it slowed me down lol. Give it a week or so, and you'll be able to tap and thud you thigh without it hurting like hell, unless you keep on hittin that same spot :/ Ill shut up now cos am waffling.Rossi. ogre
Muscle pains and trials are nothing new, stay off your bike (riding it more will just stretch and pull the muscles more) stay away from the bike (i know how tempting it is lol) but just off your bike and don't do anything strenuous (lifting, wanking etc) that could affect your thighs etc.
ben_travis
I dont do taps that often, i was trying around 52" and wasnt going fast enough, but its just bruised (although not visibly) and hurts like hell every time it gets caught. I checked my sidehop technique and i usually as do most people catch my bar on the way up and never had the pain before. These bloody high bb bikes are hard to tap ill give it some rest in france and it should be reet i imagine anyone else got any thoughts
stubert
Does the area you have been hitting feel quite tender? A little hard Ben? Want me to feel it? Get yourself a warm balm that you can rub on, something anti-inflamatory, id suggest using that untill you go to france, AND whilst there. Its not a pulled muscle you have i doubt, its likely that you have bruising inside your leg. This can be quite painful but dosnt take long to go away IF you stop hitting it. Try massage it aswell, working around the pain. By the sounds of things its just some heavy bruising from the constant hit you are giving it. You might want to try moving your bars up the streerer tube just one spacer if you have room? (cant remember if you do). Your thigh could toughen up after a while and just get used to it, like the calloces on your hands. Worst comes to the worst, ill just have to rub your leg after very tap....... I've had more muscle pains in the last two weeks than all of last year, and resting it then riding smaller for a while seems to help. However, if it's the bone you've bruised (possible), the only thing to do is wait. Pain in the arse, I know, I bruised the bone in my right wrist recently (luckily it doesn't hurt while riding, but it's stopped me playing guitar and lifting stuff at work).
