hey with the new release of the new Imac and Mac book pro i was wondreing if there are any mac users on this forum. Just want to know what you think about the Intel being in the Mac. Wasnt the Mac processor what made a Mac a Mac well along with its stylish/compact design ( and everything else thats better with it :-:P )

And what advantages does this give mac users?

i quote from the email i got " Whats a Intel chip doing in a Mac? Awhole lot more than it did in a PC"

cheers Glynn

I think it's because they're cheaper to make. And for compatibility with other people's hardware.

The biggest problem I have with macs (as far as hardware is concerned) is that they're virtually un-upgradeable (when compared to a PC) .

Looks like things are changing now though.. It started when they moved over to Unix (MacOS X) and Intel based hardware. I reckon within 5-10 years there'll be no at all difference between a Mac and a PC apart from the OS ( I think we know who'll win that fight - poor old microsoft :( )

Hey guys, if you read the info on the apple website it tells you why they have put intel chips inside :) they haven't mentioned compatabilty or upgradeability, but just left it to the fact that the intel processor outpaces the old mac one by 2-3x (Y) so its the same thing just 2-3x's faster (Y) God im drooling :P
