frozenfrogsocks
I've been trying sidehops more lately as frankly, I suck at them... But when I hop, my front end goes sideways onto the object but my back end stays where it is and sort of whips out. Any suggestions?
bee_
I seem to end up with the backwheel on, but not the front

Any suggestions?Hey mate, try thisAs you preload lean slightly towards the wall instead of just swinging your frontwheel over also try and play around with your body position until you have it dialed, you will soon get there don't worry. frozenfrogsocks
Thanks guys, it's really annoying me as I can get the height and then just screw up every time...I'll try it tomorrow when it's not raining

frozenfrogsocks
Is it just me or is it much easier to get height bunnyhopping straight up things (if theres somewhere to put your front wheel)?Oh yeah and how tall would you say a blue pallet is? poopipe
It sounds like you need to lean to the wall more and try to land the backwheel - by tucking your feet over to the wall - rather than trying to plant the front on the way up. The front will move over by itself if you do that. well - thats the assumption I'm working under - it's having mixed results but progress is being made. steve huddo
HeyThe way I learnt it was the "snake" technique. First by moving my front wheel to the side of me, then trying to get my back wheel directly in line with the front, by swinging the back end round. (Thus looking like a snake)Then make the gap bigger each time you do the technique.Once comfatable, try adding a hop up 2 stack palet, then 3, 4, 5 ect. It has helped me!Steve Edited January 22, 2006 by steve huddo
Danny Kearns
Well here we have another sidehopping topic, right first things first.-Right start on your backwheel not to far or to close to the wall.-Then start pulse hopping on your backwwheel i would say no more than 5 max.-Then literally i mean literally put your arse on your backwheel (preloading gets the power).-Then launch your self upwards and sidewards at the same time.-When learning try and get your front wheel on the wall first then swing your backend around and position the backwheel on the wall.-Then try and get some sort of tukage to keep you balanced on the wall and to make the sidehop look a bit smarter, by the way dont over do the tuckage like meredith lol. Hope i helped.Dan !
Mark W
Is it just me or is it much easier to get height bunnyhopping straight up things (if theres somewhere to put your front wheel)?Oh yeah and how tall would you say a blue pallet is? 6.5". That's how high your standard, regulation, mass-produced blue pallet will be. I've been trying sidehops more lately as frankly, I suck at them... But when I hop, my front end goes sideways onto the object but my back end stays where it is and sort of whips out. Any suggestions? Right, I'm guessing you've got the basic "hop on backwheel, kick up" part of the technique dialled? If so, then all you need to do is focus solely on where you want your front wheel to go when you're setting up for the hop. As you're on the bakc wheel, just focus exactly where you want the front end to go. Just keep your eye on that spot, and as you kick up, keep looking at it still. Your front will follow where you're looking, and your back wheel tends to follow. Just make sure you suck the bike up properly. My sidehop technique's not great, but if you look at where I'm looking and where my front wheel ends up, you can kinda see the correlation...So yeah, things to remember are you go where you look, and 'cos you're the driving force of the bike, you've got to get your body moving first, so throw your body over the object you're going onto to stand a chance of getting the bike to go there. Check out some vids by CLS, Benito Ros or Tunni too to check out some pretty shit-hot sidehopping technique.
