flipkickbs
About 3 days ago i pulled a muscle in my upper back from riding. Just wondering if anybody else has done this and how long did it take to get back to full riding ability again? I've been doing stretches which seems to be helping, and other than that, just resting. Its got a lot better since the day i first did it (sunday) and i have seen a doctor about it and he said it is just a pulled muscle, but being a doctor he had no idea how much i want to get back to riding and so didn't really give me any set time frame as to when i could be back on my bike. Infact all he did was give me some really strong localized painkillers which make me go to sleep, i've only taken 1 and don't want to take any more. I'm not even too fussed about it hurting a bit, I'm just going fcuk'ing crazy sat at home, i need to fkin ride so badly!!!! ROAR!!!!!! ROAR, ROAR, ROAR!!! Any suggestions of how i could super speed up the healing so i can ride the comp on sunday? Thanks y'all,Ian
Mark W
I had a similar thing before, just on my spine quite high up, near where a rib joined. Sucked dick. I also raped my rib-cage after I cracked/broke 2 ribs though, and that caned too (the muscle damage).Either way, backs suck to hurt. They're pretty key for life in general, and seeing as you're not going to be riding trials all your life but you are going to be using your back all your life, you may just want to let it heal. Yes yes yes, I know you want to ride, but if you ride it'll hurt more, and it'll take longer to heal, not to mention it might properly f**k you up. Not really worth the risk.Keep riding to a minimum, and if you have to ride the comp on Sunday, just atke some ibrupofen and warm up a lot before riding I guess... anzo
I've pulled a muscle in my back twice, one at the top, one in the middleish. Hurts like hell, can't breathe or anything.Mine got better after about a week or so, but I agree with Mark, don't bother riding until its healed. Your back is a weird thing, anything you do to it now will have a bigger affect in 10 years. Your back might feel fine and then you ride and completely f**k it up and backs are hard things to heal, so its really not worth it. Give it a week or so. Tomm
Yeah, it's not really a good idea to just dose yourself up on painkillers and then go riding. You'll just do more damage. Just wait for it to heal - I used to pull muscles in my back all the time when I was starting out, and I was never off the bike for more than a week I think. If the worst comes to the worst, just go riding with some other people and take a camera or something. That way you're still basically riding, just not doing yourself any damage. As for healing - once the initial swelling/tenderness has gone down, you could try some deep heat/hot baths to see if that helps. It might do. tricalum
I did the same a couple of weeks ago on chistmas day but in my lower. I sliped on a rail and landed on my back. I was out of action for about a week and a half. You could try putting warm up oil on your back-I think this helps to ease tention in the cells or muscles (dont do this before going to bed though as you will find it very difficult to get to sleep). Also try things like having hot baths for long periods of time, this helps.Do not try and take lots of painkillers becuase it will damage your liver and dismissing the problem will just make it worse.Try massarging(sp) it too.Calum

flipkickbs
Wait intill it is healed mate. then go to the gym and train it (dont pull a musle in it again) (do light weights) Then it will get stronger for riding I don't go to a gym, but is there anything i can do at home/in the garden/in a field/city centre to build up strength in the damaged muscle to prevent this happening again? I'm really, really addicted to riding so the 4 days i've been out of it have been absolutely s**t. I just want to get better quickly, and not have to think about the possibility of landing and hurting my back again. Thanks Ian
