Hoot
I have an amd Sempron 64 2.00ghz with the 128mb cache. It's great basically, its overclocked to 2.4ghz no problem,. Will beat the intel by far, even if the intel was 50 quid cheaper i wouldnt buy it, get the amd!My mum has the intel one, i do't really like it, its to slow for me. It depends on what you want the computer for really!Just read your post carefully, if thats all you want it for then get the intel! Tomm
Just read your post carefully, if thats all you want it for then get the intel!Eh?Surely one is better (value) than the other, so it doesn't matter what he's going to be using it for. Last time I looked, Semprons were good value for money, I just bought a 754 2600+ for my dad and it seems good. Fairly cheap too.

tank_rider
I'd always say AMD in the current crop of CPU's especially if your comparing them with a celeron. The cripplingly small amount of cache on the celerons means they really suffer with most applications. Also dependant on what model they will be based on the prescott core which is well known for being pretty damn hot, meaning cooling etc will have to work harder and generally be noisier.I'd still recommend you try and get a budget socket 939 setup if you can, if you really cant stretch to it then i'd definately go with the sempron.
