tank_rider
Ok, so the time has come to sort out the trusty avid on the front of my bike. I've finally got some new forks so have the confidence to get a larger rotor (203mm) which I've fitted, however the cable thats currently on there is severely letting the whole system down. It's been on there for about 18 months and has been mauled in several crashes, so is in dire need of replacement. My question is whats currently considered to be the best brake cable about? DeeZee
I was under the impression that the inner of a brake cable was the same the world over... I mean, what can you do to a wound core of steel?I've just got what ever my local shop had in. I Can't say i've ever noticed much difference on a branded cable. Brian Bleech
I am a fan of odyessy linear slic cable! i think it works really well, smooth and stiff and cheapAvid Flakjacket, xtr, clarks are all decent expecially with a generous amount of gt85mike
Krisboats
I would say as to NOT get a jaqwire cable thats been teflon coated, i think they only come on the innner cables but there might be an outer with it on somewhere. Basically, it starts to rub off inside after a while and you end up with a thick gunky mess that you have to clean out for it to work again.I have heard lots of good things about the odyssey linear slic cables, you may want to try somewhere like RS or even the peddle power in loughborough might have them. If i am remember right, these are the ones that you can bend to some very sketchy angles and the cable still pulls through perfectly well, which would be handy if you decide you want to start barspins or something like that. CurtisRider
odyssey linear slick cable-cheap and awesomenokon if you have the money and yeah inners do make a difference, pre stretched inners means theres less faffing with adjusting lots when first fitted, and the brake wont be horrible and flexy at first, but these both come with decent inners so dont worry
