Tomm
Any thoughts on what BB rise on a 24" frame would be like? Obviously most have a bit of rise (25mm), but what about, say, +50mm? Pros, cons etc. I'm gonna order a(nother) Leeson fairly soon and I'm just thinking about geo. At the moment, I'm thinking 1030 ish, maybe slightly less, 72/73/74 (undecided), and just wondering about BB rise. I think I should probably stick with what I know and get a normal rise, but I'd definitely like to try a 24 with BB rise.So yeah, any thoughts? aust
bunnyhops would be better..... dont know about manuals n stuff though... i woulda thought its be more difficult.. due to a steeper centre of gravity ??? which.. is a bad thing on a 24... cos with a streety style.. manuals usual come with it... but bunnyhops also do.... . its the same with everything... if you gain in one area.. you loose it in another Edited January 15, 2006 by aust
011001000110010101110010
My bmx has a bb rise, and that handles loverly. It would make it more figity i think rolling on two wheels, it would prefer to be on the backwheel only.

ghosts_cloak
get the geo of you old leeson, it was awesome. or get a 1080 wb one If I remember correctly, 1040 is the max that Mr Leeson CAN make as thats how long the tubes he buys are? I was wondering if you would order another Leeson Tomm, I think I would if mine were to be stolen I wonder what the waiting time is like these days - it seems that Leeson bikes are becoming more and more popular?~Gaz

I am quite happy with the geometry of the Ashton, but it's got a crack As for the geo, I think I'm going to go shorter than the one I had before. Although I am not 100% sure on that. As with anything, it is a compromise, a shorter one is nicer for techy stuff, long better for gaps etc. But I think I am having more fun on the shorter bike. Dunno, it's really hard to say. I can't decide
Steve-A
My experiances with BB height on 24" have been going between +25mm and level. Overall I'd say I like my +15 Leeson. When i was running the pashley ity had a level BB. I could still go as far, as high etc as on my Leeson, but it didn't feel as nice. One bonus was spinning. I could spin it more like a bmx, ride out of spins better, even if i landed at an angle. Riding +25mm ashtons and other Leesons again, feels simialr to the +15 of my own. It does feel worse to spin, you cant ride out of spins as well if you land sideways. When on backwheel it feels marginally better than mine but nothing to write home about. So for me the +15 is best ballence. It feels nice on the backwheel, and easy to ride trials with, yet i can still trow it around liek a bmx, and get away with dodgy sideways antics. If you have the cash to splash trying a +50 or similar would be very interestin,g but only if you also make the wheel base over 1060, i.e. making a proper "long low silver" type bike but with 24" wheels, rather than half hearted like the Zoot. I ain't going 1060, no chance. So perhaps I will just get the good old +25, maybe even +15 or something. I don't think I really want to spend £400 on an experiment either How long is your bike Steve? rich4130
I think steves is around 1020? shorter than my ashton anyways.Ashtons have 3/4" BB rise as well, 19mm or so.

Brian Bleech
you can order custom geometry for lesson bikes?EDIT: how much is a frame? look like theyre made of cr-mo? any website?pretty much custom, but i don't think he can/will go any longer than 1050/1060 not sure, jon pace on here had the longer leeson ever made i believe.frames start at just over £400 it would be very interesting to ride a short 24" with a higher bb, but like you said you don't have the money to experiment so i would stick to something fairly standard.mike
Steve-A
How long is your bike Steve? Its 1020mm long ( well 1015 due to bendy forks), with 380 stays, +15mm bb and 73 degree head angle. I really like it, only thing I'd say is that I'm not running such high rise bars as most other 24" riders, which might need playing with to get best use out of lower BB. Mark W
Don't forget though Tomm that more BB rise seems to make frames feel shorter than they are? The BB rise on my Zip makes it pretty good for spins, manuals, and bunnyhops (once you've got the technique for the hop sorted for that frame, anyway), but it's still cool for 'real' trials. Anyhoo, Simple have just released a new BMX frame with over 12" of BB height, so they're even doing high BB shit in BMX now

Thanks That ain't that high though, a level BB on a BMX would be about 10.5" ish, no? And most BMXes have some BB rise don't they?
