well, i got my new bike wednesday, it came with a hope xc. it seams ok, but skips really randomley.its happened 2 times under high pressure and 3 times just pedaling. just wonderring if i gave the hub a bit of a service whether this would sort it. i just really wantto know how to get at the ratchet and pawls(I.E get the freehub body bit out), i remeber reading you just undo bolt and pull it off, but im not sure so i thought i might as well post.

any help welcome.

well, i pulled the freehub boddy, it wouldnt move, so i gave it a good sharp tug and 3 springs made a leap for freedom. i found one :( it looks like a biro spring. could i use a biro spring instead. i'll keep looking for the propper ones :(

cheers, a very annoyed mat :(

Biro springs are good, and if there stiffer that will help stop skips.

DO remove old grease, but DO NOT run the hub dry, you will just wear it our quickly. throughaly clean and regrease the freehub carrier, and the ratchet bed, and either use something like finish line wet lube, or a thin smeer of grease around the ratchet bed, and little dabs in the pawl carriers.
