george_seamons
Does it make the USB connection noise when you plug it in? I think I might know what the problem is, if it appears to be conencted, but you can't see it

biketrialler
QUOTE(deanie-b @ Jan 14 2006, 05:34 PM) ←Firewire? As in The usb connection?, Then yes i have )No, usb is different to firewire. Usb is the same connector you plug your usb memory stick into yeh?Firewire is not the same as this. The camera probably wont have come with a firewire cable. deanie-b
well whatever lol, It's the same as my ipod runs on.*awaiting george's reply*
biketrialler
It sounds like its probably USB but old ipods also ran on firewire so its not exactly definitive. The camera wont give you good quality capture through usb. you need to be using firewire.
george_seamons
Lol, ok. This is assuming your running Windows XP. I'm not sure if it's the same for other operating systems.Click start-->runType "diskmgmt.msc" without the quotesIn the window at the bottom, see if you can find the camera. See if it has the same drive letter as another drive (such as a hard drive or something)If it does, right click the icon-->change drive letter and paths-->click change in the window that pops up, then change the letter to something that none of the other drives will have...such as q.Then press ok to the messages. Hopefully now you can see the camera in the My Computer screen. If not, you're screwed

Greetings
still, its wise to buy a IEEE1394 controller (firewire) if you have a dv camera.
