TomR
Right, i slowly got out of riding a good few years back, and since working full time i built up a jump bike that i could use for fun aswell as riding about normally, but it barely gets used and after trawling through my old skool trials-punks, LTC and trialskings videos, i want to build up another trials bike for a bit of fun, as its easier getting out to ride than it is doing dirt.So what frames/forks are about these days? And what are most people doing brakes-wise? Last time i looked they were all bitching about v's against discs!Im mainly a street guy, and im not after a mod. My previous setup was a mk1 zebdi with fattys, shorts fat stem and some DW risers, middleburns blahblahblah, so whats about these days for that kinda shit?cheers,Tom
Mr Plod
How comes a few of the old riders are starting again? Is it their new years resolution or something? Whats your budget is probably the main question and you going to be riding street or natural? Regarding the brakes its a battle between discs, Magura HS33 (hydraulics) or v's still. Most of the prebuilt bikes come with maguras front and rear unless they come with a front disc which is usually either avid, magura or hope is the set up i think people use now, but as for rear brakes, some bikes are starting to use disc brakes again such as the new 06 monty xlite and ive seen a few tasty planet x-zebdi with double disc yum if you ask me but most people i think you will find use a magura hs33 set up and either grind their rims or leave them depending on the pads being used. Also drilling various parts of your bike (mainly rims) is a craze as well to save weight. But yeah this post was probably really useless seeming as I haven't been riding long. Other members feel free to correct me On a final note.. Welcome back and sure you'll love it Edited January 11, 2006 by College Boy
TomR
Haha cheers im hoping to! I actually recently split up with my girlfriend so ive got the extra time, summers gonna be coming up soon (so hopesully ill get this built in time!) and i bought a bike when i got a job because i love bikes, but i just dont use a dirt bike as much as i would a trials bike.Ive already got some wheels that tarty built up for me a while back, they weigh a tonne but theyre strong as hell so i may aswell keep them, most other bits i might replace so i may sell my DMR complete but without the wheels. On another note - I want a seat! None of this namby-pamby crap Budget would be about £600 for the lot (apart from wheels) or £300 for a frame, and i might need to squeeze the forks into that too. Mr Plod
Think you could pick up a decent enough frame for £300, if not, 2nd hand off the for sale section will certainly get you a decent frame in very good nick. Just a question of being on at the right time Being as its a 26" you're after I'm not really much help but I think fattys are still a popular option for forks with some people. Besides why would you want a seat? Don't you know that long low and silver is the new thang! Hope I've helped somehow
TomR
Pfft, gimme a good 14 inches, a seat and some matt black anyday! And damn, frames are cheaper than they used to be! Better start finding some buyers for a DMR and some bombers!
Brian Bleech
I reckon you would probably like an echo pure - a bit longer than your px, can fit a seat only problem is they don't make them any more, but you should be able to get a second hand frame somewhere. They base ta26 is another great frame thats cheap and can fit a seat too.or if you have more cash..24"welcome back

TomR
Didnt the echo's have a bit of a problem with cracking though? But i must admit i do like them, and id probably consider another zebdi if it came up. Whats this other PX frame ive seen kicking about these days?Ill PM you later on Mike, im in work at the moment. Theyre MX comp airs, been ridden about 5 miles since ive got them and have been off nothing higher than a kerb

TomR
Yeah ive already posted in there, and theres another PX ive been told about so ive got 2 to choose from. Nothing will beat my old 8ball mk1 though!
ScotchDave
Welcome back, long time no see.Fatties are hard to get hold of now, but there are lots of equally good forks about, like the echoes sold on tarty or selectbikes. The echo cracking problem was solved with a new alloy called U6, good stuff. TomR
Yeah long time indeed! It'll be interesting to see whos still about these days!Ta for the info on the echo, ill keep my eyes open but so far ive seen 3 zebdi's so ill probably end up with another one of those! And talking about fatties, arent the ashton forks the same? Do they even still exist?

Id love to see more people riding them though, those days were so much more fun Cant think of many frames with seats around that price at the moment, you could always get one much cheaper though, like a Base as was said before, cheap, short and ride nice if you don't like the new high BB, long-bike style. Otherwise, the pure, or Onza Woodstock? Just another option.
TomR
Yeah, alot of people were getting pissed off with planet-x as i was getting out of riding because they were cracking, but whopee, you hurl yourself off rocks then stuff cracks! But i thought it was a fantastic frame!Might look into the base and the echo's if i dont end up with any of these planet-x's.
