King C
Ive just built my first mod bike after having bought my first bike, and I now have a bit of a problem. I have had to shorten my chain and I can't seem to find the right length. I've got it almost right. When I add 1 link its too long for my chain tensioners and when I remove 1 its too short and the brake pads don't line up properly.

011001000110010101110010
Yes, this appears to be a generic problem with most mod frames. The real problem is becuase there is not enough adjustment for the rear wheel. You may have to run it loose for a while and just ride around in circle while it stretches allowing you to take a link out. Or find a half link for your chain and that should solve the problem, if you can find one that is. Edited December 31, 2005 by derf

Lawnmowerman
front freewheel or fixed with profile/king?
King C
front freewheel. by profile/king you mean hubs don't you. If so then its neither its a mission hub w 14mm axel (really annoying)
Lawnmowerman
Try and get a 13t rear cog and it will get your chain to the right length
King C
do you know where i can get 1 from cheap, about £10.
011001000110010101110010
Changing the gear ratio is not the correct way to do it, it will work yes. But a new chain, when it is stretched should be fine. But the wheel will probably be right at the front or the rear of the dropouts in the frame.Another option would be to connect the chain whilst its off of the sprokets then pedal it on unless its way too tight this can also work. Lawnmowerman
His chain is already stretched.
the judge
"Another option would be to connect the chain whilst its off of the sprokets then pedal it on unless its way too tight this can also work"i've heard that doing this can ruin the bearings in the bb/hub so be careful if you choose this option
011001000110010101110010
Yes, but if it isnt too tight you can "power through it" and it will sit nicely. Its a bit pot luck though.
wilky_mod_legend2
i would say, get a new chain,if its old anyways, dont want any more carnage , then try and undo 4 bolt mounts and put wheel in and a get a rough tentsion then set up brake, and adjust if needed, this worked for me,cheerswilky
