Mr Plod
Okey major problem.. Just got my T-Mag back from being built up with my old Monty X-Lite parts and find that I can't put the Onza Chain tugs on because the chains too short... I'm planning on going to the London ride on the 2nd Jan so its a disaster as I won't be able to get a new chain in time for Monday so I have two options... Could I use a link off of a bmx chain to extend the chain just enough so that I can fit the tugs? If not then Dad came up with the idea of cutting about 2-3mm off the end of the stays so that I can fit the tugs on. I need a quick fix as I want to ride London. Help pleaseeeeeeeeee Edited December 31, 2005 by College Boy
Joe_Elding
Borrow some snail cams off someone?or halfords & evans sell KMC's if you can get hold of some on the way to the ride on monday?or just put the bmx chain on?
Dan6061
For a temporary bodge/fix, you could just attach a piece of old chain on there. As long as it's the same width etc, should be fine. Just have to remember, some links in chains can be a lot different to others. One could be a lot wider then another etc.
Mr Plod
Borrow some snail cams off someone?or halfords & evans sell KMC's if you can get hold of some on the way to the ride on monday?or just put the bmx chain on?The thing is at the moment I'm crap with technical aspects of bikes But the nearest Halfords to me is the complete opposite direction from the station so I'd have to get there extremely early (What time do they open?) and then put the chain on before 9am so that I can ride to the station get a train to Liverpool street and yeah. But wait isn't Halfords open tomorrow? I remember Will saying he has to work tomorrow? But if not then yeah I suppose I could nick a bmx chain if its a bit longer. Otherwise I'll have to miss the ride and I work Sunday mornings so won't be able to go to one for agesss
Joe_Elding
Yeh halfords should be open tomorrow now i think about it as new years bank holiday is on Monday and not Sunday. Ring up tomorrow and then pop down and buy a new chain? Edited December 31, 2005 by Joe_Elding
Mr Plod
life saver. If they are then I want to have Halfords babys when I'm older! I didn't really fancy the idea of cuttin a bit off the stays. Silly dad. Cheers Joe should hopefully be going to the ride now If not then I'll have to miss out and bunk off work one Sunday. Cheers and cheers for the other suggestions
Jez
On a similar subject, I snapped loads of chains on my mod, until I bought a BMX chain called the 'Motorbike Chain'...it lives up to it's name. It was huge, but I never had any problems with it and I ragged the hell out of it. It was a bit heavy though...and that was 5 years ago... There are only a couple of sizes of chain width, basically. There might be slight fluctuations in it, but it's not going to be massively different basically. We had to bodge a chain in our shop out of about 5 different types of chain. Top qual.On mods, I'd recommend the KHE Collapse Pro *every* time. They're 12% stronger than Kool chains, and I don't think they're actually any heavier at all (sub 10-20g, basically). For all that extra strength I'd rather have 5g more weight on my chain...
