ive just got one of those cameras or very similar........... the lead i had to buy was a 4pin to 4 pin firewire cable, this was £15 from comet. i plugged the camera in and turned it on then windows xp automatically recognised it and asked which program i would like to use, i got power producer with the camera, but that was a bit poo!

windows movie maker is good for beginners

You won't be able to run movie maker on 98. (Y)

Movie Maker will come standard with XP, although there are much better products "available" such as Premiere. Which would run on 98, but probably a little slow depending on your ram and CPU!

You'll need a firewire card if you've not got one, they're around £10 from dabs.com, and will come with the cable you need.

www.adobe.com

itll cost you 600quid though

try avid, they have a free editing package.

a firewire cable cost me about £4 from scan.co.uk or aria or something like that. get it when you order the firewire card (which you'll probably need because your machine sounds old)

You will need a FireWire IEEE1394 interface (can be got as a seperate PCI card). That's the best and quickest way of copying data from a DV camera onto a computer. It's all digital, so you don't loose quality. For editing I use Premiere Pro 1.5. Great program although it's pretty expensive. Got it from a friend whose parents use it every day. That's also the program I use to record the footage onto a computer. Unfortunately it needs rather a powerful computer to run.

Like people have said already.. ull need a fire cable and a firewire card if you havn't already got one.

Windows Movie Maker is great if you are just starting out. If you run a Mac, iMovie.

Good luck with it all, hope so see some vids.. its great people getting new kit!!
