Dai the Socket
A flatmate has got a free copy to upgrade his Tiger to Leopard 'cos he got his computer in October, so I should be able to borrow that to update mine - I hope.As long as he doesn't register it or something? I'll have a play anyway.
Joel
Unfortunatly nick, When I firsted loged in it showed up with think it was "starting leopard" app or some sort that asked for details (inculding serial number) then updated it to the interweb so I am not sure if you can close it or prevent it. No harm in trying.... unless you get caught.lol..muppet.ever heard the phrase 'better to remain silent to prevent looking stupid, rather than opening your mouth and removing all doubt' something like that anywayUnfortunatly i am cursed with an effect which blocks out the meaning of silent in my head. JonMack
The best way to do it is to make sure you're not connected to the internet when you set it up (dont plug in your ethernet cable/dont connect to your wireless network). Then you can login without registering, then just remove the registration link from your dock. Simple.

Joel
oh my god stacks are bloody awesome! Basicly put my Apps into catorgaries and it has shrinked my dock loads!Dont normally have it that big but it is that big to show you. After the zebracrossing (not really sure what the line thing is called) I have fun/lazy apps, work apps, usefull utilities and of course downloads then to the left finder and any app that is in use. Makes everything alot tidier.
Tomm
Do you reckon Leopard's worth it then? I'm tempted to get it for my G4 Powerbook (1.5), not sure if it would be slow though. Hmmm. Also, you know the upgrade, I know it can keep all your files etc, but does it keep apps as well? I may take a trip to the apple shop tomorrow and play with the shininess

Joel
I have all my apps. May aswell take your mac just incase. on my macbook (intel core 2 duo) quite new yes everything runs as smooth.... well as smooth. i dont see it failing on your powerbook nor running slow, should really run just aswell as mine. When installing my dad had a problem with it saying "cannot update" so he spent a whole day backing up his harddrive and then before whiping his laptop clean, it worked so then he had to wipe his back ups in order for timemachine to work. I say go for it I mean to be honest there isnt many major difference (well not 300) but it is nicer and easier. Mainly depends weather you can be bothed with money and 1 hour updating. When i was updating it first said it was going to take 4 hours 47 mins then kept cutting down to about 50 mins total.
Tomm
Hmmm, that sounds very easy. To be honest I probably will buy it. It just looks so purdy!
JonMack
Lifehacker do it again with the mind-reading.http://lifehacker.com/software/step-by-ste...pard-315637.phpEDIT:That's the screen I was talking about. If I were you i'd Archive and Install, not Upgradehttp://lifehacker.com/software/lifehacker-...tion-315917.php Edited October 27, 2007 by MonsterJ
Tomm
That's what I meant, archive and install. What's the student pricing for Leopard? I have heard different things.
JonMack
I think Rob rang up and they said about £58, but on the store its like £71 or something.
