Fsa Pig Bottom Bearing Cartridge Snapped!

Hi,

I was riding in my garden today and heard a strange creaking in my forks, and fearing the worst whipped them off to check for cracks, when i got the forks out and the little bearing holder thing that sits inbetween the crown race and the bottom headset cup fell on the floor in pieces.

Anyway:

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement for this?

I'm getting a CK headset in a few weeks would it be safe to ride with it in three pieces for this time until I do?

Is there a reason why it happened? overtightening of the headset maybe?

Answer away (Y)

Yep:

Same thing happened to me, get a new headset, pigs are almighty crap :((Y)

It is normally just because it can't stand it, it can even happen putting them on (smashing them between headset cup and fork crown)

Looks like, from CRC's stockings, that its happened to a lot of people recently :P

pigs are awesome headsets for a start so dont listen to that kid up there. to be honest, i would ditch the cage and just get a packet of bearings. this way you get more in, spreading the load and not having to worry about a crappy little cage. make sure you get the correct bearings. your local bike shop will have some.

Do what mat said ^

Just cover the cup in grease (use plenty) and get as many bearings as you can in there. Make sure none of them fall into your headtube as they may fall into the hole and you'll be stuck with a ball bearing in your frame rattling around. You should be able to get an extra bearing in. Cover them in grease to keep them in there, get the forks on, and it should run fine
